Check for fungus in tank by seeing if hand pump creates a vacuum.

Check for fungus in tank by seeing if hand pump creates a vacuum.
84 w123 300 turboD
my inherited car has that symptoms, it did ran and stopped, now i reversed the supply & return steel line the vacuum feeling is gone , is running now , but what should be the real solution?
and some say if it tank is 1/4 empty then it will suck in air and no go too.
since the return line is about 1/4 from bottom, whereas supply line is right at the bottom. regardless is never a good idea to run her < 1/2 tank.
TIA.

Or clean the tank screen after first emptying the tank. I have a thread on here somewhere about how to empty the tank relatively effortlessly.

Most People seem to try a Chemical method of dealing with Tank Growth.

From what I have read Startron works most of the time and seems to reduce the chance of haveing to change a bag full of Fuel Filters till you Tank is cured. However, it won't reduce any sort of Rust Blockage only organice stuff.

Cleaning the Tank of course is fast and works but you still need to chemically treat the Fuel as your Fuel Lines back and forth are infected.

I have a wagon that's never had a tank vent valve attached to the tank until I figured out what was supposed to go there...
the tank is COVERED in crud.
I used quad coverage Diesel Power KLEEN in the tank for a week, and the filters cleaned themselves out.

what I understand about Diesel "ALGAE" or "critters" is that it's just basically sediment from fuel that's begun breaking down. chemical "recombiners" will repair a dirty critter infested tank.

it worked for me.

Would you happen to know where the tank vent valve lives on the SD? I've got the new valve but am unsure of where it is and how to access it.

The SD has suffered from the "algae" for years. It developed when the vehicle was out of service for nearly one year. I can tell you that "Biobor" has no effect on it.

I'm not sure if you are referring to this product:

I can tell you, with certainty, that the use of this product religiously for five years has no effect on the "algae". There is so much of it that the fuel gauge float can get stuck in it on the way down and won't immediately rise on a tank fill.

"Creating a vacuum" is half of what the hand pump normally does. What does that have to do with fungus in the tank?

thanks
I am not sure whats the fate of the car, it had sat for a good yr or so, thats the cause.
needs rear window, bumper, steering has some play, body is kind of Iffy.
Plus these cars worth more dead than alive, unless is in really good shape, only thing going on well is the tranny & engine.
Eng pulls quite strong, has most power in my fleet of 3! Wish I can change the eng just like i can replace a light bulb.

I'll go get some BIO bor first and try to reverse the lines. Hook the line where it should be see if the vacuum effect persist.
Thanks for all replied.

The tank filter at the bottom of the tank is 46mm or 1 13/16" socket. Most often available only in a 3/4 drive.
