The car is a 1984 300SD. The Ignition key (IK) is stuck in position 0. In order to remove tumbler and then the lock assy from the steering column the IK has to be in position 1. What now?

I have looked all over the Lock assy and cannot locate the button that has to be pushed in to withdraw the lock assy from the column. ( if I could get the IK to position 1)

Would it be possible to drill our the realese push button?
If I could find it.

Could the Lock assy be withdrawn with the tumbler and screw on cap in place?

HELP! HELP! Please HELP.
