Exclamation Blown ALDA

I have a '92 140.134 w/ the 603.971 with a blown ALDA. Holds no vac, runs like a turd etc etc etc. I was hoping someone had a lead on finding replacements as MB discontinued them or where I can find the internals. I'm not too keen on buying a IP just for a ALDA. Suggestions guys?

-Glenn

Thumbs up

Remove it? I have had the one off my SDL for years now.

I had thought about that, now currently the car is apart for clogged manifold x-over, and bad glow plugs. I will be putting it together tommorrow to see how happy it is without the ALDA. I'll just put a cap over there it goes to keep it clean for now. But I'd prefer an ALDA installed that just adjusted to lack of one at all.

The car would be happier with a EGR delete as well if the x-over was choked.

It basicly already has it. I am just going to block off the Vac, the diaphram is blown in it also and it stays closed. When I checked it for clogging the pipe was full so I broke all of it loose and vac'd it out and reinstalled the bad EGR. Made a metal gasket w/ no flow for it when I put it back on.

Reseal ALDA Steps?

How does one reseal the ALDA. Where can the parts be obtained? I've looked with no joy in the past!

Yeah, no howtos are posted. I'm not sure of the details either, but I've seen someone do it.

Once you take it off I doubt you will ever go back. Gotta watch how you drive if you want to maintain MPG's.

I'm gonna open it up and see what the deal is. Can't hurt it as it's blown already.

I've had mine off of my 87 124 for years. Once you get over all the power you'll have, there is no difference in fuel mileage. Mine smoked a little on takeoff, but I've learned to feather the accellerator to keep that from happening.

You will be amazed at the power that 603 has down low once you take the ALDA off...

I'm glad to hear it. I just put the new glow plugs in, replaced the intake gasket, the Vac Control valve on the side of the IP was busted so thats new. Once it cools down a lil bit outside I'll go change the oil and engine/trans mounts and fire it up.

I took the ALDA off my '81 300TD, because I broke it being a ham-fisted idiot, err, I mean, a little overzealous with the screwdriver. The car does run better, but it also smokes more than I'd like now. I hear the 603 is harder to overfuel than the 617, though.

The ALDA NEVER holds vacuum..

The ALDA reacts to intake manifold/turbo air pressure..

the ALDA SHOULD never experience vacuum, but a functioning one WILL hold vacuum.

It is a sealed unit.
