I first saw that a couple weeks ago, really made me laugh. the air filter gets it`s air from inside the fender. there is a hole in the inner fender that pulles air in from the side. this thing in the front isn`t going to do anything.
You would think the guy would have a close up of his main selling point.

I particulary like the block of wood and the tiny battery. Looks like there are some other mods done too. Overall, it does look pretty clean compared to what I see in Indiana for sale.

Can't "ram air" into a forced induction engine can you?

I don't see why not. You'd have to get a lottta ram though to make a measureble difference. I suspect.

I would think forcing air faster into a turbocharger would accomplish... nothing.

Poor car. Looks like it's had its eye poked out.

I agree the Geo Metro battery is a nice touch. At least we can assume it starts with minimal cranking effort

Ram charging is the process of "whiffling in" a nice long column of air into the cylinders at atmospheric pressure. This ram charging is said to intensify at high rpm by each charge pushing the charge in front and pulling the one behind. My 1967 230SL made use of that principle and it was quite effective. I think the air pressure produced in the intake system by a turbocharger would completely run over the ram charging, the push of the turbocharging being so much more effective.

I would assume that the inside air has been blocked off so it would work. Of course that does not mean it is so. I did some tests a long time ago on my 77 datsun pickup with ram air, and there is a very small gain from it. I remember it was not enough to register on a a gauge that reads in psi, but it will register on a manometer reading in inchs of water. So less then 1 psi of boost, and of course only at speed. This of course being a na , not turbo application. It should help a turbo the same amount, as the turbo raises the pressure based on what pressure it recieves the air at.

Is it worth doing? I haven't done it to mine, and not going to. Much better ways to add power, without the odd looks.

Don\t make me go all ForcedInduction on ya

How fast the air gets there isn't going to make any difference to your turbo (assuming there is unobstructed flow to begin with).

I saw this as well and was tempted to go save her as I am looking for a 123, not to mention this price seems right. However I have not got the wife on board yet so I may need a few more months to get the green light.

Looks like someone poked out it's right eye... with a trumpet!

...and it's nice to know that when my gen-u-wine Mercedes battery dies, I can just pull the lawn/garden battery off of my mower.

Post flagged for removal... derf...

If the air has pressure above atmosphere going to the turbo then the air after the turbo should be that much higher. Granted in this case it is marginal if there is any measureable differance. But think compound turbos and you see what I am trying to say.
