Automatic tranny experts out there?
I have this automatic tranny which came from a 240d I am pretty certain. I am not sure which one though. It could be from an 81 that I converted to manual a long time ago or from the 74 that my lovely daughter #3 put gasoline in and ruined the motor.
Can someone tell me how to identify the year of one of these trannies? The one from the 74 is one I know to be an excellent shifting tranny. The other one I only know worked well enough to drive a car onto the trailer with a blown rod.

I've got most of them "documented" here
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/general-information/311136-fsm-epc-data-%3D-chassis-model-transmission-drive-train-information.html It is still work in progress but I'm like 99% sure most of the data is good.

That is very good. Thanks!
Where do I look to find the transmission number?

Right (passenger US) side stamped into the alloy at the base casting, just above the pan.

Indeed - I've added some where to find the part numbers information in the thread (follow link in post #2) that might help.
