New guy needs pointers for increaseing power/efficency

I've read a little about increasing boost pressure, turning up the pump, etc.

Are there any basic alterations that can be done to a '85 300SD (5 cyl)? It would be nice to have a little more throttle response, but don't want to cause damage possiblities (294k miles).

On my diesel truck I replaced the exhaust with a 3.5" mandrel bent straight exhaust (no cat, no muffler), and use Amsoil high-flow air filter.

Are there Amsoil filters for the MB? Opening exhaust on any diesel is a plus. Anyone done this to a MB?

Where would I find pump settings, waste gate adjustment information, etc? Has anyone tried to intercool a MB?

Sorry about all the questions.

No, they pretty much did a good job... just make sure that everything you can do to have it adjusted to specs is done... If you want more throttle response put an ad in the paper and sell it and get a gasoline powered car....LOL...or find a good psychiatrist who can help you love these cars for the reasons we do .... LOL....Greg

learn to gun it a lot.

If you stay on the gas at around 2000 rpm you'll feel it start surging ahead, that would be the turbo building up enough boost to be of use. That surge is your friend, use it wisely.

This is going to open a whole can of worms but I just finished making an air ram for my 300sd. I just finished it two days ago and I havent had time to drive it tons since I have done it but I can definatley say that this DID increase the performance in the 1000 to 2000 rpm range. I increased the diameter of the snorkel off the air box to a 4 inch tube. I will start a new thread on this as soon as I can get the pictures finished (hopefully tonight)
