well I can beat that, long ago dad got an early 80s corolla, RWD, it was very sluggish to drive and had a little rumble from the diff, So he took the car to his then mechanic (I was a lad) - and the mechanic gagged and vomited while working on it - When he drained the diff, a goo came out that was made by mixing gear oil, animal fat and bananas, There was an old mechanic nearby who used to work in some MG dealership, and he told us of this recipe and he recognised the smell. It was a cheap way to peddle a car according to him.

gear oil itself is stinky - try mixing that with rotting bananas and animal fats, it was done to quiet down the diff.. Dad just threw it out for another one.

yep - that smell was worse than a fermenting silo of pig, horse and human excrement combined.
