Injection pump leaking oil?!
I have a 1982 300sd with about 180,000 miles on it. I have removed the ALDA, EGR vac mess, ect. It looks like the injection pump was rebuilt at one time because there are yellow marks on the screws and bolts. The car runs great, it has a good amount of blow by but there are no fuel delivery issues. My main concern is what looks like engine oil leaking from the pump itself! Is it engine oil? If not i dont want it to run out of its oil! It leaks enough to make a mess after 50 miles to mark its territory when you park it. It appears to leak from the ALDA area, top cover plate, and some of the side service ports (not sure of the proper names). Maybe if it was rebuilt they used bad O rings and gaskets? Any help is appreciated!

It does indeed look to me like engine oil.
On your pump the oil supply comes from the engine itself via the intermediate shaft so it shouldn't run out of oil so long as you have enough engine oil in the engine... It looks nice and clean - can you not identify the source of the oil leak? It is a bit difficult to do that when looking at pictures. Are the vacuum lines that are above that area oil free? (That wouldn't be a nice occurance)

Thats a relief about the oil! It doesn't leak enough to make a difference on the dip stick. I am very weird about a clean engine bay lol I de-greased the pump and only drove about 25 miles to make it look like that. It looks like it is leaking around the top plate. The seal is not flush on the outer side. Can i get that seal from aut0hau$? It is an odd part...

Hi BT, mine has also those yellow marks (been rebuilt 10 months ago..) and I have also small oil leaks on it....on VERY CLOSE inspection I have discover that my IP cover plates are cracked and seals on the side are weak...I quess guys used old ones during rebuilt.. clean IP,get some serious light on it,start engine and inspect .

Cheap bastards! That is a great idea, Tomorrow i will clean everything up again and carefully observe where it leaks. I don't think anything is cracked. If so i will have a JB weld party! I know it also leaks where the ALDA retaining nut is.

Remove the 4 corner screws and the plate it will lift a bit and can be moved some. maybe clean off the underside of the plate and the to of the surface it sets on, and use some Permatex form a gasket 2A, comes in a tube and is dark brown sticky stuff. I wouldn`t use RTV Silicone.
The Alda nut holds the lid from coming off. Here is some pictures The Gears posted when he changed his Vacuum Control Valve. shows some how the lid can be lifted and rotated. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/2726817-post1.html Charlie
