Mercedes Benz makes gas motors? Hmmmm. I wasn't aware.

Only reason I got the MB is because it was diesel. Have fallen in love since then.

Goal was to run alternative fuel - settled on B100 instead of veggie oil after much reading.

Have driven the three MB diesels in the sig one after the other since 1965. Some years ago was given a 190b for parts to maybe someday bring back the 190Db. It (190b) has never run, and I'll never try to start it. So that should qualify me. The strange thing is, I got lured in back in high-school when I got a ride in a ponton 220S with the Hydrak clutch. What a neat car that was !!!

I messed up and bought a '71 250 once. After dealing with the dual Solex carbs in that money pit I swore off carburetors. Not long after swearing off carburetors I bought a little Kawasaki with twin carbs. I have since upgraded to a fuel injected bike and sworn off carburetors again, and this time I mean it. FI is ok, but I'm not in any hurry to buy another petrol MB. Maybe if I hit it rich I'll spring for a 6.3 or a 6.9.

As a charter member of the sub set of clubs here; "Grumpy Old Diesel Owners Club."

A couple, three years ago, there was a poster/member of PP that posted a thread entitled:

"Strayed From Diesel, Learned My Lesson and Now I'm Back" (or somesuch)

It was quite the thread in I believe Other Discussion Topics forum here - anyway, this thread gives me a lot of hope for the future love of the diesel - specifically the Mercedes-Benz diesel powered passenger vehicles.

If I wanted a German performance vehicle/car, I'd of bought a BMW, is my feeling toward German/gassers. Just my feeling on it.......

To the guy with the 617 powered 380SL? Yah, you bet you're a diesel-head, but that's just my opinion.

If something happened to my 300D, I'd include 70's to early 90's BMW's in my search for a replacement. However, as long as the old 617 keeps clattering, I'm holding out for a '78 Porsche 911SC (same year as me).

I don't think there's much better sound than a decent straight six BMW engine in full song - I just can't stand the tackiness of a BMW since the E9 (and even they had some pretty bad interiors). Just look how BMWs age compared with a Mercedes (excluding pimped W201s) - they just look cheap - no style.

Now put a BMW straight six in an old Mercedes...

...may be even a Volvo 850 turbo engine - they sound nice too...

... gassers are ok for parts cars...
I've never gotten a gasser MB that runs...
diesel's... um, yeah I have a few...
I'm down to ONE gasser vehicle in my list, and it'll be gone soon. my 97 Suburban gasser is getting sold to my brother. so including my lawn mower, I'll be GASOLINE FREE soon.

For gassers I'm forced to jump ship in order to gain access to the excellent Quattro system. For diesels I'll take a 60X or TDI
