why the hell a 22 mm nut?

I would guess maybe an M14x2 but that is normally a 21 mm head (ISO preferred size). I don't see why 21 mm would be no good if the thread matches...

What size is the 22mm nut...

What size is the 22mm nut...

At first, I thought this was something along the lines of "how much weighs more? A pound of feathers, or a pound of lead?"

All is good now...

I said 22mm because that's the size socket used to remove it. It's in this guide
PeachPartsWiki: Refreshing the Alternator and I was trying to prevent confusion as to which nut I was referring to.

I know what you mean, I mean no offense to you, only to MB (Bosch?) engineers

I mean a 22 mm head nut is just a strange device, normally it should be a 21 or a 24 mm, it is like something you put only in case of having a nut and a bolt so you can use one set of wrenches or something.

Unless maybe if it is inch, like a 7/8 head on a 1/2 inch thread...

Call a local alternator/ starter rebuild place, they can hook you up.

or

Go to the junkyard and find another Bosch alternator. I know Saabs use them as well, and yank the bolt it ought to fit.

it's 13/16" I think. it's the same size that all the alternators use. go to a parts yard, and pull the nut of any alternator in the yard, it'll fit.
