After.. I still need to tweak the hood. Picked up the AMG wheels with new tires on them for cheaper than putting new tires on the stockers. This thing continues to surprise me with the ride and engineering.

Welcome to the forum.
What year is your car? I've had my 98 for a couple months, it is an awesome car. The PO put 5-spokes on my car and I love that look. I spotted the SC tag, where are you located?

I'm not in love with the wheels yet but they are growing on me. I think i could like them more if they were silver. |

I'm on the NE side of Columbia above I-20 and east of I-77.
Is that a new hood or were you able to save the existing one and just swap the grille? If so where did you find the donor? Did your ac condenser survive the wreck? If not look up vstech on the forum, he is the man when it comes to ac repair. He's up in Charlotte. Here's some nasty things to look out for: - front spring perch hidden rust - glow plugs can seize in the head, they can easily shear off on removal, and then you are in a real pickle - ac evaporator leaks, I suspect I might have this, it is a real pain to fix this but not impossible. Total dashboard disassembly and removal, then total disassembly and removal of the HVAC system behind the dash required. - Flex disks in drive line - if they fail at speed it is very ugly Minor irritations "display defective" messages with radiator and washer icons, try replacing the washer jug and radiator level sensors. MB decided that both switches should be wired in series to the same input on the computer, with some series and shunt resistors, so if one sensor fails both indications come up. I bought both sensors, and changed the washer jug sensor (30 second job) and it cleared the trouble. I saved the radiator tank sensor for whenever I change the coolant next. My reverse lights/right outside mirror dip quit working, it turned out the contacts in the switch in the gear selector (it's not on the transmission anymore like the 1xxx cars) were dirty and out of adjustment. New switch is $150 or disassemble the mechanism and clean/tweak the contacts $0 I went through a rash of bulb failures but that seems to have settled down for now. MAF sensor went out, $220 part takes 5 minutes to install. front/rear suspension rubber getting old after 14 years, somewhat expensive but requires special tools to fix. Cool upgrade: My car had the analog cell phone in the dash. I was able to remove it and install a Parrot bluetooth kit and make it look stock. However you have a 99 and I believe they went to fiber optic bus for the audio/cell phone system, and so I am not sure that will work for your car. Do the EGR delete and clean the intake manifold, your intake is probably full of black icky sludge from the exhaust coming back around into the intake. Search the forum for the details on how to do this. Good luck, there are several of us with W210 Diesels on the forum so we are always willing to help and answer questions.

Engatwork - i will try to get a better pic of the emblem later or tomorrow, its raining insanely around her today.
Jaybob - you are pretty close! Its a recyled hood from LKQ, I got the contact to LKQ from my local shop. I told him I wanted the same color and he located one in louisiana and had it shipped to the shop for $325 it was really the long pole in the tent of the whole deal. After I secured the hood things really moved quick. The condenser didnt survive but i found a Nissen one through a dealer on Amazon and had it in two days for $150 or so. Had to replace the engine fan and clutch as well but it all went together pretty quick. I still have to do some fine tuning on the hood alignment and find a grille. So far the AC is working great after vac and recharge. Thanks for all the great info. I plan on using this as my daily driver back and forth to the local airplane manufacutrer. Trying to keep the miles off of my 2012 Dodge 3500 and better fuel mileage! |

Joe - 198,000. Bought from the second owner with records from the dealer through the first buyer but the second buyer took it to two independent shops in town so i need to get them from them. The po didnt want to put any money in to fixing it from the accident because it was his fault. It was not totaled, he just elected to sell it rather than fix. The story i got was that it hit the back of a jeep. The bags didnt deploy, the radiator was still good. The hood, grille and upper radiator support took the brunt of the impact.

Mine's got 130K miles on it with the originals, and I'm wondering if the shock value is gone. As I've only driven it the last 14-years, I may be suffering from Stockholm Syndrome when it comes to not noticing how it's taking the harsher ruts in the road....... is why I asked miles/records, when you said the ride was so good.
