Diesel Purge on 240D (old filters pics)
Just did my first diesel purge on the 240D with help of Russell @"DG's" pictoral help to set up my own bottle/tank and lines.
I didn't get any smoke, soot or dirt coming out of the exhaust at any time which I expected from what I read and what I expected from this engine. I guess that's good. It does seem to run better and have better pick up now, especially in 1st gear. ..

After the purge I installed new primary & secondary fuel filters and changed the fuel lines under the hood with new rubber lines.
The rubber on the old lines was pretty hard, and the clamp on the bottom connection of the secondary filter (to the pump) was very loose, barely connected. Pics below of the PO's filters. The clear is pretty dirty , maybe 10,000 miles overdue, and the spin on that is rust on the top of the filter. I think the diesel purge was a good idea. ...

so, no suggestions.. Thanks for the links WH. I do already have the Startron diesel treatment in for past 2 weeks. I guess it's a good idea to pick up the fuel tank cleaner they make. I've been a BIG fan of their stuff from my days running WVO in my 300D. It cleaned up the WVO so I was able to keep a fuel filter on for at least 6-8 months before having to replace them, so it can clean anything!!
I've had a few old diesels and I never saw rust at all let alone like on this car. I was going to clean the tank strainer this weekend but we had lots of rain. Funny thing is when I checked under by the tank the strainer looked like it may be a new one. At least the outside is clean a a new one would be. The fuel sending unit I did clean up and put it back in but it's still not registering accurately most of the time.
