Can I pour anything in tank to kill algae?

I know there are a lot of tank additives, but do any kill algae? My car is a daily driver, so any algae would be minimal anyways, right?

How long have you been on this forum? Yes, there are fuel treatments that kill algae and the remains are burn with fuel as I recall. If this is your daily driver and you go thru diesel and buy quality fuel, you probably don't have an algae issue.

Anything in particular hints that you might have algae in your fuel tank???

Startron and Biobor are to commonly used products.

I got My First Diesel Car back in 1993 and the Mercedes in 2007 and I have not had anything growing in My Tank so far. So I have never used either of the above product; even as a preventative.

Rremeber when using biobor/startron/etc keep extra filters and a wrench with you they will clog and it will always be at a bad time.

I'd just pour anything down there. Glue, pepsi, battery acid, liquid hot magma...

Sorry, couldn't help myself. Somebody had to do it.

true. You also run the slight risk of over heating the engine with the magma... I'm sure the 'pure diesel only' guys will say the glue would clog your injetors.

fungi

My 240 died in the middle of an intersection from the fungi.
Filled up with cheap fuel in Houston from a neighborhood station that probably didn't sell much diesel fuel. (It was still cold out at the time.) Then drove home and parked the car for a month with 1/2 tank and the weather turned warm. Car died. Next day, changed pre and main filters poured in 5 gallons new fuel with Sea Foam got home and drained the fuel tank, changed the tank filter, and filled up with Startron added.

Now we are very conscious about keeping the tank full when the weather changes.

And you get 40mpg! I already have a source for WFC (waste flat coke) so it's totally do-able!

I did read this thread to see what was good for algea removal just in case I ever have a problem... Just so everyone knows.

My supplier in Columbia will be pleased to hear this.

Is there any way to check the fuel tank for algae without tearing anything apart? What does this stuff look like?
