So, I haven't looked, is there no more E320 Bluetec? Or is this the junior version?

I didn't ask... I just wanted to see the 45mpg Eclass...

this one was fully optioned, and it had interesting wood trim.
they call it satin finish, but it appears to be unfinished/stained wood. no varnish on it. looked really nice. felt fantastic. I love the texture of wood grain.
new leather seats don't thrill me, but they were comfortable. the motor purred. nice large trunk, but of course, no spare... just a giant adblue tank.
I expected it to have 18" wheels, but they appeared to be 16's small in appearance... classy, not showey...

I wonder how long before the EPA busts Mercedes for cooking the books on that that fuel economy test the way they did with with Ford, Hyundai, BMW etc. This engine has been on sale in Europe for a few years now and real world fuel economy is far lower.

My brother has an E250 in another part of the world. His highway fuel consumption is 5.4 L/100km. That is 43.56 mpg in USA terms.

Took a 2000+ mile trip to eastern Montana and consistently averaged 39mpg+ with many miles at three digit speeds in a E350 BlueTec. Fuel mileage is about the same in the GLK250. Both drop off to around 32mpg in local stop-and-go short mileage trips. Even with passengers and luggage the GLK250 was able to average right at 37mpg on more crowded European roads. The 250 is a winner!

I bet 45mpg is easily attainable when not driving like a maniac. Our TDI has the same size/type of engine and easily hits 50mpg. Highest I have managed is 54.7 on a 60mph road for a couple hours. City avg is about 36.

These numbers are not that far off, especially when you consider only one of the examples could be considered broken in.

I would say 31mpg average in a smaller lighter C class is pretty far off the claimed 28/45 in the E class. I'm not worried tho, the EPA is cracking down on this stuff and I'm sure they'll get around to deal with MB's shenanigans.

I didn't bother reading your links about fuel economy since i've got around 45k direct experience with cdi engines and there is now way in the world i'm going to buy your 31 mpg 'hope' based on the data you provide. Sorry, no sale here.

My glk diesel is returning 37-39 mpg highway mpg on a consistent basis and there is absolutely no doubt in my mind a c class diesel with the om651 engine would be in the high 40's at least.

I just filled up my 06 e class today and got 41.5 mpg on the last tank, mostly highway.

I'm betting the e class with the om651 will indeed make 45 mpg on the open road.

If that motor makes it into the 2015 C-Class I will be trading my Altima on one.

Great to hear about. I've not been in a MB dealership in several months now, so it's good to hear some firsthand observations by other MB diesel fans. I'm kind of skeptical about ever buying another new MB diesel, especially when assessing what they cost new - but it sure is entertaining to see 'em. Love to see your pics. when you get time to post 'em.

Guy stopped by today to look at my 190E. Saw my diesels so we started talking about diesels. He mentioned the E250. Said that, in Portugal, he drove a 9-passenger van with that engine in it. They has six passengers, loaded with luggage, and the thing was absolutely and effortlessly powerful at 100 mph.

You definitely live in Rhode Island

I drove a GLK250 a few months back and absolutely loved it! That is the engine that should have been offered from the very beginning!

I went to dealer today to pick up gasket for my 300D. Right next to front door, they had a new E250 parked. Now that is a car I could grow to love!

I guess our 300Ds are really e-classes. The e250 is more than I can afford, but allowing for inflation, it is cheaper than the 85 300D would have been. By comparison, the GLK250, is a bargain.

BTW, my brother who lives in another part of world, has an E250. He has owned many different benzes, but still raves about the E250.
