FREE AXLES for 300D

I have a set of axles off a 1983 or '84 300D. Needs boots. Got at a pick and pull for my car, then realized it wasn't a SD.
I live in zip 19518. Local pick-up. Free to good home.

Do W123 axles fit the W126 with the 3.07 or not? I thought they did.

Pretty sure 1981-1985 300D and 300SD axles are exactly the same....

The SD axles are a little longer. I had the wrong one shipped to me once, you can't fit 126 axles into a 123, I tried for a while, even though they are identical as far as ends, and even though the diffs can swap. I had ordered axles for an 83 300 and received axles for an 83 SD I believe

Ratso. How about '80 'CD axles in a 1982 'SD? Or do you run into the homokinetic/annular problem there?

I thought I had seen the same part # for both before, but cannot duplicate my results now, so I am concluding they don't.

Anybody want a set of axles from a 1980 300CD, one with pretty good boots and one with a ripped boot, for $20?

Probably too short, though unlike trying to go the other way, I bet you could get the axle in, but it would probably be over extended. Somewhere I have a comparison length pic ill post. Its all about the wider body seems like. The center shaft is just longer. Without another axle to compare it to, its identical appearing

Homokinetic vs annular shouldn't matter. I've had one of each on a 300D a while back. How the axles mount to the hub and diff is identical between the two types, just one can be disassembled

Thanks. I was hoping to avoid a reboot for a little while, but my laziness is defeated by reality again .

Coupe: 55.0 in (1,397 mm)

W123 Body dimensions.

Dimensions Wheelbase Saloon: 2,795 mm (110.0 in)
Coupé: 2,710 mm (106.7 in)
Limousine/ambulance/hearse: 3,425 mm (134.8 in) Length Saloon: 4,724 mm (186.0 in)[2] (euro-spec bumpers)
4,640 mm (183 in) (Coupé) Width Saloon: 1,784 mm (70.2 in)[2] Height Saloon: 1,435 mm (56.5 in)[2] Curb weight Saloon: 1,625 kg (3,582.5 lb) (turbodiesel, automatic)

The Differentials will swap from a W126, 81 - 85 over to a W123.
The Gassers use a larger Flex Disk because of the larger Tri Flange. That would have to be changed if going into a Diesel.

W126 86 - 91 will not swap over, MB changed the Diff mounting.

The Trailing Arms are the same up to the 85 W126. w123 and w116 are the same.

So then if the trailing arms are the same they should swap. well....unless the upper subframe is wider on the W126...

maybe its something like that, like all the same parts bolted to a different upper subframe.

I finally found that pic-

here are the two axles compared, I received in the mail one correct one, and one wrong one-

and here are the two I received, plus the ones I was swapping out-

the longer axle measurements an overall length of just under 27", and the exposed center section was just under 7"

The SD's are longer. Must have been in a daze spending all that time working on the wrong car. Took the axles up and paid, came back for the steering wheel and realized what a goof I was.

the SD axles also have larger cans on one side. MB originals have LARGE inner cans. I think the cage is larger as well on the W126 axles.

I can confirm, they will go in (don't ask how I know), and you might get a few miles out of them, but they will destroy themselves in short order.

We have a set of CVJ rebooted/rebuilt axles off a 1983 W123 that are available for sale if interested. They were only run on the car about 9k before we pulled them off and scrapped the car. 3.07 differential from the car is also available and in great shape. (no play) PM me if interested.
