I specifically said use the short Mercedes vacuum hose because it is very stretchy to fit over a hose that is twice or maybe even 3 times its diameter. It's unlike any vacuum hose that you buy in auto parts stores.

All of the above assuming
That there's not enough slack in the existing hose to make the fitting. Once you get the broken segment off, utilize a candle flame to GENTLY soften the tube and put a little soap on the fitting. Worked for me.
