I had lunch with the president and only employee of Carbon Engineering almost daily when I was still working and understand the process slightly. It does require a tremendous amount of energy. Glad to see he is making progress and finally managed to purchase a gas plant for his adventure. He is a financial wizard and his dream is coming true after many years of investments. He never had any sales several years ago and I always wonderd how he could made ends meet.

It is totally magical. The exhaust from your diesel is primarily CO2 and water. With enough energy the exhaust could be turned back into fuel, but it would take more energy than you got out by burning the fuel in the first place. In fact, since the efficiency of an engine is about 50% it would take at least twice the energy. The point is that no one is going to turn CO2 into diesel fuel on a commercial scale, even if CO2 were free. This is the same sort of nonsense as using water for fuel, another exhaust product.

Oh Yee Of Little Faith...
You are overlooking the fact that when totally green energy is available.. the amount of energy needed to do it makes no difference.
Totally green energy at any one place is when the initial investment has been paid off . It is totally gravy and very important for the future . This is particularly important because liquid fuel is needed for some applications...

When totally green energy is available why waste some fifty percent in order to produce a different type of energy. When that totally green energy is available use it as is.

Because liquid fuel has some great advantages which can not be beat by batteries , fuel cells, etc...

Wouldn't it make more sense to co locate this with an existing CO2 source like a power plant where the CO2 can be had in much higher concentration?

Yes now that would make sense, or downtown Beijing.

Since the raw materials are available anywhere...... the priority will go to good solar , wind, and hydroelectric sites.

Smog cities are good candidates for this too... especially cities with nearby nuclear power plants...

I hope it is true but does anyone think it could also be an elaborate scam?
