Question Won't Start, Started Once, Ran fine; No air bubbles & Glow Plugs Glowing

This car has not ran for 2 years. What I've done to it: new clear fuel lines, new seals and copper crush washers on injection pump. When Turning over I don't see any air bubbles and I have hooked up an external glow plug to the harness so I can observe the glow plugs working. Is there anything that I could be missing before I check the compression? This car ran perfectly fine for two years that I owned it until it developed a leak from the Delivery Valve O-rings, which I have fixed, but am not able to start the car, still. I did remove the k-30 fuse and had it resoldered. I read somewhere that there is a problem with the relay data cable occasionally, I have wiggled that cable to no effect. This car did start 5 days ago, ran great. I turned it off after 5 minutes because at the time there was no antifreeze (which I have now added). I've been cranking on it all weekend to no effect, after new clear fuel lines, and I just put new o rings and copper crush washers on tonight and cranked again, nothing. I don't see any bubbles, I'm sure the glow plugs are glowing (even though the dash glow plug light doesn't come on). I'm at a loss. Hopefully someone knows something that I haven't come across yet All I need is fuel, good compression and heat to start, right???

Also changed the two filters. The pre filter showed no serious signs of bacterial infections, etc. Maybe a slight rusty look? Come on guys help me out thanks!!

Replace all o-rings - especially on the suction side of the lift pump.

Check lines for air.

Be 100% certain you did not mess up any orings during install.

Replace crimp-on hose clamps at the tank and in the engine bay with screw type hose clamps and check the lines for cracks.

Thats a good start

Try turning it over by hand. On my 1985 300D, there is a bolt on the p.s. pump which makes that easier than the crank bolt. If you feel each cylinder resist you strongly, over 2 revolutions, you probably have good compression.

Did you crack each tube nut at the injectors and crank until you saw liquid from each? If not, there may be air in the tubes which allows the IP to just bounce against it without building enough pressure to pop the injector and purge the air. I don't think that is easy on your engine, with the intake manifold over them.

I've changed all o rings and lubed with silicon spray, non damaged I think, I was very careful. Previous owner replaced the house clamps, I'll check the one going to the tank. All new clear lines and new rubber on the suction side going to the intake hard fuel line in engine bay. I've turned the engine by hand and it's really hard, I'll double check like how you said. I get unburned fuel spraying from egr hole so I'm assuming the injectors are popping.

It takes a bit of cranking to refill the system if fuel has leaked back some.

It shouldn't be the case since you recently had the car running well, but I second the idea of cracking the injector nuts open if it doesn't start after another minute of cranking.

This will also give you a chance to inspect the injector wells for random events or failures.

also, make certain you routed the lines back to where they belong after you replaced them.

and check the cap on the fuel filter housing - the plastic "shut off" screw.

sometimes I like to close that when doing fuel work so less drips out.

One of the wells is half full of oil I'm guessing from blow by... The hoses are right, I've followed fuel flow diagrams.

I don't recall seeing a plastic screw for that; I'll double check on that.

Exclamation

Pleeeease someone help me. I have tried all this, I have cranked and cranked. Good news is I moved my dash wires so now my glow plug light works (which I already knew the glow plugs worked, having hooked up an external glow plug).

I cranked on it today until the battery went dead. Had my boy crank it while I inspected the clear lines. I noticed right before the battery went dead the pre fuel line did not seem to be filling up easily. But no bubbles in the other lines. I wonder if it's somehow not getting the correct amount of fuel. All the fuel lines are full of diesel though...Could the tank strainer be clogged? Does anyone know how to remove that on this car? Thanks! Hopefully I get this fixed soon

Check the O ring on the prefilter? Pull main filter and fill with fuel? Crack an injector line and see if fuel is getting to the injectors? No fuel line should need to be filling up if you have cranked the crap out of it. They should be full by now. Actually main fuel filter should also be full by now as well.

Edit. Wait. I just reread and saw that it started 5 days ago. Was this after you did O rings and crush washers in the IP? If so then maybe the no start comes from the anti-theft which I think this generation of car has? Something with overhead lights flashing inside? My '95 does not have this.

Good luck,
Chris W.

I've cracked the lines previously and fuel came out, although didn't seem like it had a lot of psi pressure I expected. I just changed the seals day before yesterday. It ran, 5 days ago. I replaced the pre filter it has 2 new o rings. I am seeing unburnt fuel from the exaust side of the engine so I'm sure the injector are popping. When I previously cracked the lines, it had fuel coming on all six injectors.

I'm thinking hook up a temporary tank of fuel at the engine bay to rule out the possible supply problem from the tank. I can crack the lines again but the previous two times it didn't make a difference when I did. All the clear lines are brand new and I can see they're full of diesel.

The main filter has been filled up and it hasn't emptied after turning over.

I'm at a loss. I'm just thinking of different things right now like Diesel purge. Can I do that without the car running? Could this be an injector issue? It ran the 5 minutes, fine, like brand new.

The anti theft lights are red and green on the mirror and they've never flashed
