New Bluetec followed me home, will be sad to say goodbye to the 300TD!

I know, I said I don't need a diesel anymore, went to buy a GLC. 28mpg seemed pretty good.

But tonight I took my wife to the dealer, told her that I wanted to drive a GLE Bluetec, even though it is out of my budget, just to be sure that I am buying the right car.

Don't ya know, they're making some pretty good deals on 2015s, ... and the GLC just doesn't ride like it's bigger brother. And so far I'm averaging 31mpg in the ML Bluetec, ... which is as good as I can get in the old '87, I just hope that the car lasts as long!

So now I need to take some pictures, write the description, the good and the bad, and move on to what I expect to be a little more boring automotive relationship.

I don't think that I'll be wiping tears aside to type, but I'm pretty sure I'll be a little misty when the day comes that BlueBelle pulls out of the garage for the last time.

I won't miss the piles of spare parts, the nights scanning the internet for a shinier part, for an upgrade, for a little hint or tweak, ... or will I?

So it's been a good run here, I've enjoyed all of the posts, the help, the personality of this board and all here, and hope to hang around a little in the future. Maybe in another 10years or so there'll be some of us looking for advice on keeping our Bluetec cars in tip-top shape, I hope so.

Best regards, I'll soon be posting my old friend in the classifieds, ... for all to dissect her imperfections and my unfinished project, it'll be fine I'm sure. I'll need to hang around then, just to see what the next owner decides to do with her!

Nearly got one for my mom last year... they sure are nice!
The dash is very well laid out, i love the wood finish, and the leather is just great.

Hate the run flats each morning.

Back up camera is the best I've seen.

I got the E class BluTec in 2011, loved it and got about the same mileage. All the while I kept my '85 190D. Traded in the E for a GLK250 BluTec when they first came out in the 2013's and absolutely love the car. On an extended trip at speeds under 90mph I averaged 39mpg. Shorter trips I get about 32mpg with all the stops and starts. Going to keep this one long term, just like the 190D which has 154K on the clock, and still ticking.

I understand your 190D relationship, and would keep BlueBelle also, ... but my Wife, the voice of reason, reminds me of how much time I don't have for car maintenance, nor the space, so it does make sense. Plus, she has this weird opinion that all good weather is for boating.

You pick your fights, maybe some day I'll get my Unimog.

Congrats on your new purchase, I think you're going to like it a lot more than you think and you won't miss the 300TD very much.

The OM651 is the OM616 of the 2010-2017 timeframe, only its about 20X better in every respect. It's going to take another decade or two before the computer phobic OM616 crowd is going to give it the respect it deserves but I'll predict it will be more loved in the 2040 timeframe than the OM616 currently is here.

Hope I'm still here to see it happen!!

I could be wrong but the now somewhat iconic and perhaps ancient 240ds with a manual gearbox. Many may never be replaced in the minds of those that have owned them by any other car. They were and probably will remain an example of a unique vehicle.

I for example remember fighting through horrific winter weather on the way home with a new to me 240d aquisition and driving the rocket ship through mountainous regions. Those cars just demanding that you drove them.

Perhaps it is also partially the periods in time we drove them in as well. Those times will never come again either. I too am 73 and most cars now are just utilities in comparison basically.

Both the wife and myself daily drive cars that have no character basically but require little upkeep.

Now, when you get somewhere, you won't have that sense of accomplishment....

I don't know what an MB GLC is? I have a feeling it's not a diesel, or is it?

GLC is the new version of the old GLK. While the old GLK had a diesel option from 2013 forward I don't think the GLC had a diesel option in the US.

GLC=old GLK

It has the OM651 Twin stage 4 cyl turbo diesel. This motor has been yielding 24mpg in a full size Sprinter van!

Enjoy....

I would agree with you generally..but! I have a 2011 GL350 and a 2012 Sprinter both of which have the OM642 engine. They are glass smooth, amazing mileage, easy to maintain but the emission stuff is out of hand. There is so many little sensors that have reek havoc, none of which are a huge deal but really nuisance items. The other thing that is of concern is with age how much will it cost to make these repairs? I dont know but there is nothing to compete with these MB diesels.

The GLC diesel is operating overseas. It will be introduce to USA in the 2017 model, introduction November. Supposedly. Jelly bean style just like all other SUV's.

GLC, GLK - I'm confused on what these new downsized MBs are. I was behind a CLA 250 coming back from running a few errands late afternoon.

I tell ya what's looking fresh to me is the new 4 - door E Class. Nice lookin' car - if it's not just Cs I'm seeing out there - if the new E CLASS isn't out yet?
