It looks real straight, plus it has the Euro benefit of no horrible auto CC that comes in US market cars, causing endless headaches. Obviously the undercarriage has been cleaned, but I see a discoloring on the front of the oil pan. Could this be a crank-seal leak?
Congrats on remaining the high bidder

Does the 1987 US diesel wagon have this issue? I’ve thought about buying one more than a few times.

I believe he means Climate control.
Unfortunately I got distracted and thought the winning bid was mine so did not respond. I thought They were supposed to inform me of being outbid but I don't think they did. I am in mourning about the loss of this lovely car. I feel like a complete boob. I contacted the buyer and seller saying I was interested in buying it at a higher cost than he paid. This car is ideal in every way...only a five speed od stick tranny would improve it...and leather seat covers?

Can you help me understand why this car is better than a 1987 diesel wagon? Just the climate control? Is t the 1987 US model a turbo like the 300sdl? Wouldn’t the turbo version be better?
I’ve been researching what it would take to put the 5-speed manual I have from my w201 part out onto my 1992 300te. It sounds like a drive shaft from a 260e and the timing marks on my existing flywheel. Oh, extending the shift rods by an inch too. Other than that, it sounds pretty bolt-in. The diesel may be even easier without the timing mark requirements. The options for transmissions are much wider. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

For myself the complexity of the turbo is a negative. Also they originally came from the factory with trap oxidizers which were sort of catalytic converters which were located between the turbocharger and the intake, so if the converter came apart (and they did) the fragments would destroy the turbo. Mercedes replaced all that at no cost to the owner. The model seems sort of jinxed to me because of that.
The na engine seems like a simple nearly 616 in its simplicity and powerful enough.

Beautiful wagon. No sunroof, big plus! Love the clean look of the roofline. I'm also deleteing my roof strips for a similar clean look, sam 744 exterior color.
On a side note, the wood trimmed dash and door cards is a nice bit of luxury, somewhat diluted by the blue checkered interior. It's a German thing, kinda like a Hugo Boss suit paired with candycane socks...I never understood the MB preference for checkered cloth interiors

It's a personal preference. Some people really like the euros. I'd take a US '87 300TD any day over this because it has: Airbag, 722.3 tranny, mph speedo and of course the headlight wipers ![]() I'm neutral on the turbo. Without it it's simpler, With it you get more torque/power |

The na engine reminds me of a non turbo 240 or 300. Simplicity but with enough power to cruise any speed I feel comfortable driving.

anybody know what the rear end ratio is on this car? ....what about a five speed manual swap? Six speed swap? If all that fails then an od automatic that will bolt in?

Overdrive will make the car too slow in top gear. That's a good ratio especially since the n/a 617 had 3.46 and the 5 speed manual version had a 3.67 ratio so even MB thought that a 3.07 with a 5 speed would be too tall for a na 603. |

City driving, that will be fine. On the highway though, you will be wishing for another gear to shift up to at 60mph. It will be revving pretty noticeably at that speed.
