om603 low top end
I took off the alda to fix the leaking seals months back on my 86 sdl but I made the mistake of turning the whole bottom nut and alda together several turns until I finally gave up and broke the nut loose the proper way. Is it possible that this threw off the pumps max fuel calibration? Its acting like its not getting enough fuel at higher speeds. It has great low end but doesnt pull the way it used too up hills and there is no smoke if I floor it.

I also would like to add that my engine doesnt reach redline. It shifts at about 4600rpm.

It's starting to sound.like your throttle linkage is binding, maybe something changed there?

That seemed like the most likely thing, but ive checked it out and nothing is binding and it has full travel. Also measured my 0-60 time, it was 16 seconds.

So i checked my boost level again, with the gauge connected to the line that goes to the alda and I had 10 psi. I adjusted the wg to give 14 psi. Now I know the alda is seeing boost, and enough of it. 0-60 still at 16 with alda. Power at top end is much better with the alda removed. Should i just chuck the alda and be done with it?

Once you drive with the alda removed its hard to go back,if you are not making black smoke climbing hills forget the darn thing!

Oh ok, i thought it was 5100. But anyway I got the alda to work and can attest to the fact that a properly adjusted alda is just as fast as no alda, but you get all the protection of having the alda circuit connected, which is why I went through all this trouble.
What I did first today was pull the alda off and apply pressure to it to see what it was actually doing, lo and behold it was actually working opposite of how it should. The problem was that I had adjusted it so far rich that the two halves of the diaphragm were able to separate from each other. So instead of the boost pressure compressing the two halves and moving the rod upward, it was separating them and pushing the lower half down. So it was actually restricting fuel once I had boost! |
