Unfortunately I am at the Library and don't have access to my notes. If this is a chassis W115 there is a free site that has the Manual. However, right now someone else will have to provide the site.

By the way. When I first got my Mercedes I was desperate for information and I bought the Service Manual on CD for about X2 what Mercedes was selling it for. However, I have never regretted that because having that manual has saved me lots of money. The free site is the same but once in a while the free sites disappear although that has not happened for several years.
Later I acquired the actual Books. The Books have more clear pics and for a W123 there is more info in them then is on the CD.

Note for a W123 the CD that I bought back in 2007 does not work on a 64 bit system.

There als0 should be some threads on the job concerning removing of the Timer and the Timing Chain Tensioner Spring in the repair links.

I found some pics by doing a image.goole search

In the pic the red arrow points to the big Plug that you need to remove to get at the Spring and Plunger on the Timing Chain Tensioner.
Note that the above does not work on a 617.952 because the Plunger on that Engine has a device that keeps the Plunger from retracting backwards and out of the plug hole.

If you are removing the Timer I believe you need to remove the red circled Bolt.

Thanks for the information! I think I am going to put everything back together and rebuild the pump and install the new bushing. Hopefully the clank/clatter will go away with the new bushing.
I haven't found that free website but I may just buy a manual. Thanks Diesel911

Timing locking pin

Just curious; did you use the timing locking pin to install the IP?

Thanks for the link Alec!

I did not use the timing lock pin. I set the crank to 24 Btdc. Made sure the marks on the injection pump were lined up. Then I made sure I installed it at a good angle so that i didn't have to bend the hard lines. I installed the pump then had someone hold it so I could tighten a few bolts to keep it from moving. Not sure if thats the correct way but it does run!

That is another method to install the IP (also in the service manual). Your IP is old enough that it uses a Timing/Locking Pin that is not as easy to find.

You may want to drip time it later as that compensates for any timing chain and or gear wear.
