Rear left hub W124 same across all sub variants? - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

My car is 1994 E 300D ROW (euro) spec. Failed its test on a worn rear left wheel bearing. I'm thinking of acquiring a spare used hub off the internet, so I can get the bearing pressed out and a new one fitted to the spare. This will enable me to then swap them straight over rather than having it off the road while I get that sorted.

Question is are the rear hubs the same for all flavors of W124

In other words do the 200 230 250 300 coupes, saloons, kombis, diesel and petrol all use the same rear hub unit

Wagon and sedan take different rear hubs. The bearings are different. Wagon has tapered roller bearings and the sedan has ball bearings.

Removing a rear hub is HARD. Especially in a junkyard. I would drop the whole subframe and break it apart at home.

Agreed, I would get the entire trailing arm, and not bother trying to replace just the bearing.

Our guy has the more modern multi link rear suspension found on pretty much every MB from 86 or so.

So far I've found at least the W140 S class has larger bearings / axle spline / different rear suspension.

Anything from a W201 W202, W124 , R129, and others should fit as long as the wheel speed sensor ( or lack of ) is taken into account. The parking brake cable may be different and there may be a dust shield difference. Caliper mountings may or may not be the same, I've never checked. I realize this sounds like nothing is the same however the basic design didn't change much over the years.

Below is a USA nation wide salvage yard search, it will give you some idea as to what will fit. The list isn't absolute as sometimes cars are miss categorized by the salvage yard but it will give you some idea what to look for.

Thanks for your helpful replies. The hub is off the car and still has the upper A arm and radius arms attached, dust shield etc.. Rang the seller today, he says it was off a wagon. Don't know if that was a diesel like mine or petrol, perhaps that does not matter??

I the waggon is not the same as the saloon.Thats going off the bearings only 2 numbers for bearings one for sloon and other for estate .The saloon bearing number is 2029800116.Check out thius site GERMAN STAR click on to mercedes parts catalog on the main screen .Then your model on the drop down to the left .

As jay mentioned... the bearings are different...

Also the caliper spacing bolts are different....

For some reason, all the multilink variants are specific to the vehicle...
