I lost the cap for m brake fluid reservoir on my 1985 300TD Anyone know if there a generic style that fits, or if you buy just the cap?

Thanks

There is a gm style cap that fits.

it's off an oldsmobile or Pontiac mid size car.

should be on shelf at parts store.

Any Audi or VW will definitely fit. Possibly BMW as well. I also found out that the clutch reservoir on a '94 Explorer that my wife had has the same cap.

Won't be hard to find one at all.

All Euro reservoir caps for many years are the same: 45mm.

Check one out

I'm in the same boat today after forgetting to replace my cap before a trip around the block yesterday. Does anyone happen to have a PN for a generic cap, or a specific other model I can call the parts stores to ask about? Asking for a 1985 300D, none of them showed anything in their systems.

Thanks!

Alas, no luck still. I'll have to order it and make a temp cover for a day or two.

Once you have a cap on it, be sure to flush the area well with plenty of water. Brake fluid will dissolve paint.

Just goto the junk yard. I imagine any mercedes that would be in the pick and pull would have a cap that fits. And that's gonna be like a buck outta your pocket only.

Ugh I'm whittling down my collection. Down to just 2 old Benzes now, from 4 last year.

I can only fit so much in a 2 car garage! One of mine is even stored in another state!

Good point, thank you. Fortunately I discovered it before much seemed to spill out. Also lucky that it was beautiful dry weather. Question though: Am I going to need to bleed again with the reservoir being open a few days? I know it absorbs moisture, not sure what the threshold would be, though.

I might do this today. Over the weekend, all of the yards in my general area are closed. Stupid, right? Last I'd called around nobody had a W123 in, but there should be some others I could pull from. Hm...

The W210 uses the same reservoir cap as ‘80s MBs.
