Car blows lukewarm heat.

Hi everybody I have a 1984 Mercedes 300 turbo diesel and I'm having a significant miss you in regards to the heating system. In this time of the year the weather is getting colder as we are inching in December and a working Heating system is a must. Yesterday I was changing the a overflow end plug that broke off the injector I put in a 1/8 vaccum plug as a temporary plug until the part comes.

Afterwards when I was driving on the road I noticed my heator was blowing luke warm air and not hot like it did before. Also I noticed that the temp guage struggles to get to proper 80 degree tempature unlike before it got there instantly. What happend during the process when I was changing the end plug? I should mention drops of diesel were splurging on the block but nothing to crazy.
