om603 head number ground off?

I was checking out a 94 s350 the other week and couldn't quite figure out if this is what a normal #18 head looks like or if somebody had attempted to grind down the number. All the other numbers on the head were embossed while the 8 in the 18 appeared to be ground into it:

Let me know what you think,
Thanks

That’s a casting number not an engine number.

That looks like the ones I have seen, and I'd expect an S350 to have a #18 head. It's probably fine. You could get the VIN and check at the dealer to see if the engine has been replaced too. Good change it didn't make it to 80k. Also good to check if it has a new wiring harness, they are NLA now and all needed replacing too.

You are absolutely right. chuni959 is in fact looking at, and inquiring about the CASTING number.

Yeah that engine is done, unless you are planning to swap it I wouldn't bother.
