OM617 test stand

Hello all. I am wrapping up the rebuild of my OM617.952 and would like to run it on a stand before installing in the car. Does anyone have some good plans or drawings of one that they have built? I found a fabricator that will build it for me but unless I want to haul the engine to him, he needs some good drawings.

Thanks in advance!

Alex

I ran a used OM617.952 on the ground before installing it. As I recall, it was on a small rolling engine stand. The diesel came from 2 hoses in a 2 gal fuel jug. I connected the exhaust to not bother the neighbors since the pipe was out anyway. I connected the radiator, but not needed for a few short runs. Fortunately, the starter bolts to the engine block (or adapter plate), whereas in my old Mopars, the starter bolts to the transmission.

I searched on google and theres quite a few options. If hes a fabricator he should have no issues building one to work. i would make the motor mount mounting location adjustable so it can be used for other engines. but heres a link to one i saw with measurements and info. Thinking back, that might have been how I supported mine for the checkout run. I needed it on the engine lift anyway to install, and might have sat the bottom on an old tire. I don't recall applying voltage to the glow-plugs so perhaps lucky it started easily (probably 80 F day).

Check out the stand I built: https://youtu.be/A_uxJOnN3A0
The only real way to make a stand is to actually fabricate to the engine. Trying to make one just from measurements would be difficult at best.
