Post So. Cal. 240D Help ?

My '82 240D snapped off a throttle rod and the local yards are no longer full of 1982 / 1983 240D's, anyone got one for parts or an old engine I can come pick a rod from ? .

Not asking for free and I'll travel as I'm taking the cylinder head off to replace the weepy head gasket .

TIA,

Leads to junkers will be greatly appreciated too .

Hah ! .

I spent some time checking every LKQ in So. Cal. and the one near Palm Springs, no dice .

Please do send me any links to parts cars or junkers, hoarders etc.

TIA,

Suprised with the lack of parts cars now in California. Perhaps place a wanted add on our site.

Part available from Mercedes still? I would think it cheap. Cheap being relative today of course.

Post E.G.R. Linkage

Good morning and THANK YOU ! .

Peach Parts says I used the parts image once and so, unlike everyone else here, cannot post it again .

Thread here : http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/415143-1983-240d-throttle-linkage-diagram.html post # 14, first diagram .

I need the vertical rod # 140 and #'s 152 & 188 as well .

I will cheerfully come get them - sadly the M-B Classic Center wasn't able to find them anywhere .

Correct, low co$t due to little usage, these, unlike the ball joint pull rods were not considered wear items .

I too am sad there are not many W123's left in junkyards but not surprised as twenty years ago there were plenty of perfectly good one, nice in fact that simply needed minor repairs, those of us who were yard hopping then were saddened by all the waste in spite of being able to score so many good parts cheaply via LKQ .

Don't assume I won't want your parts because they're worn, I'll make do as I managed to snap off my badly worn out # 140 .

Smile BUMP

No response from those who said they'd help ? .

There's a 1983 240D in the Oakland P.A.P. : https://row52.com/Vehicle/Index/WDBAB23A7DB408440

I'd drive up there if I could, I'm not asking for any freebies here .

TIA,

Nate, a 78' 300D just popped up today down here in San Diego at LKQ Chula Vista East. Maybe that will work for you? Shift linkages won't be missing after a few days most likely.

When the plastic ball ends on my 124 broke off I bought aluminum rod and the metal ball ends and made them. You'll have to buy dies and left handed nuts if you want them to be turn buckles but I was able to manage just making mine all right handed. I think I bought 4mm rod, but I'll look it up if you want to go this route.

Hey not sure if you got your issue resolved but there's a cheap 240D on Craigslist rn. Looks like he's selling the car as a whole but if you need extra parts or have the space for a parts car maybe this could be an option?

You are scaring us if W123 cars are now a dry-hole in Southern CA junkyards. That is where maybe 30% of them were sold, like tripping over a Tesla there today.

I haven't needed to check our local yards in Sacramento in over a year, but little need now since a guy on craigslist gave away a 1983 300D, "just tow it" which I did with my tow-bar. No engine, glass, doors, or seats, but I stripped everything else and stored, plus slowly selling off extra parts (Shern here got the fuel tank & sender cheap). Mainly got it for the hood and left fender to replace the ones on my 1985 300D my daughter crashed. Paint was new and beautiful on the 1983 so I'll paint the rest of the car that color. The scrap metal about paid for the trailer to haul the hulk there.

Unhappy Scary Times

I hear you Bill ;

It seems like yesterday (but was 20 years ago) that most So. Cal. junkyards had at least five or more W123's always .

Sigh .

I have zero interest in letting go of my 240D but may be forced to in a few more years....
