124 300D fender vent air intake

my 1991 300D 2.5 turbo has its air intake not infront of the radiator, but behind a vent on the right fender. im not sure what other 124's have this, but i think only 90-92 300D's. i was thinking that it would look cool to have a scoop over the vent and i was wondering how much this would improve performance. the vent goes through a short tube right into the air filter box, so it would be like a ram air. also i was wondering if getting a K&N would be worth it on my 300d. i have the panel type air filter.

who else has the fender vent? has anyone else thought of this?
