Replace heatshields or washers when cleaning injectors ?

I want to clean the the injectors on my 83 240d , this will be the first time doing this for me I want to know what to buy for this job , washers, hoses etc ? The car is smoking alot more and pickup speed has slowed down to a 3 legged turtle. Most every other normal thing I have replaced , I see that the basic price of cleaning and having injectors rebuilt cost more than buying new ones if you shop around , but first I would like to try and clean them. I know the auto trans is slow to begin with I have got to do better than 28 seconds from 0 to 60 mph . If I cant get this 240 to run just a wee bit faster just might have to let it go, hate to do it but lately it cant get out of its own way. Its at the point of dangerous pulling out in traffic. Thanks

I think washers & heat shields are the same critters and the "book" says you need to change them. I bought new nozzles for $20.00 + ea. Its a "no brainer" job. I pop tested them before which showed low and uneven pop off pressure. They are easy to clean in lacquer thinner so you might try that first and you will most likely need to put on new return lines. Have you tried Molly purge. Another thing I would do is advance (toward the block) the injector pump just a smig and see if that helps, if not move it back. Be sure and mark the pump and block with a little chisel mark. Have you checked the chain stretch? You musta, but I gota ask..You did change the fuel filters?

Thanks for the tip , I changed the filters a while ago but will probaly do it again I have some molly purge on order . but I did a purge a while ago and made no diff. I will try the adjustment on the pump , I really think that the injectors need attention. Thanks.

If you are down that far anyway I would suggest you pull the precombustion chambers and clean and inspect them.. they are also critical for good performance... they have something like 7 tiny holes at different directions .....
