Thayer,

I would be remiss if I didn't remind you that the Basics ,Like Valve adjustment
and Correct Injector "Pop Off" pressures
(ALSO Compression differences between cylinders ,NOT related to Valve Adjustment) WILL NOT BE CORRECTED BY ANY ADDITIVE...
Redline,Lubri-Moly,Etc.,Etc.

So if you have one of those underlying Mechanical problems and the Redline,etc.Didn't provide the relief expected or anticipated ,the tendency
would be to blame the lack of results on the Additive rather than the
Lack of Maintenance.

I once ran gas thru my 190D 2.2 liter engine, til it quit. After talking to two Mechanics at MBZ shops and hearing their outrageous estimates for purging the fuel system, replacing filters and oil, I decided to trust the guys that bought out the shop I used to used. For less than $250, the towed me the 16 miles to their shop, did everything the other guy said (he quoted about $850), replaced the fuel, oil, filters and blew out all the lines. Then they crossed their fingers and turned over the engine. It was pretty noisy. A friend of mine called me there and told me to put about 4 oz of ATF into the tank. I did, and we could immediately hear it quiet down.

However, there are better additives that won't smoke if you overadd, and won't heat up the injectors. I don't know about the redline . . . but if made for that purpose, I would suggest it. Also, I can never say anything bad about Lucas fuel additive, except the price. I would try the Lucas, which in my opinion is really 2-stroke additive, with an injector cleaner. I prefer it for use in my Cummins N14 engine over ATF, although my fuel tank is where I dump my excess ATF after I top off my power steering unit.

Was ARI forced to obtain ATF from Blackmarketeers,one of whom
sold him a Bad Batch of ATF resulting in the demise of His Mercedes Engine?

Valve adjustments and tranny flushes every 15 to 20. I love the way it sounds when it first starts, quiet and even. once it is warm then I hear the bits and pieces. I'll try the additive and if that doesn't work I'll take a saturday and do the nozzles.

It may be that I am just crazy and want it to be perfect. I put about 100miles on it a day and change the oil hot and often.

up till now I have only put oil in the crank case and diesel in the tank.
