Best way to tow/flatbed an SDL?
There is an SDL I want to buy. One problem is it is not registered so I can't really drive it home. What is the best way to tow one say 5 miles no faster than 35mph, all around town. Could I just put the tranny in neutral and have a wrecker tow it or should I pay to have it flatbeded? I like the flatbed idea because the roads are very bad here now. (about 1in of hardpack snow on them) and the underside of the car is so clean, it would be ashame to get all salty.

I think MB recommends using dollies under the rear wheels if you do go the tow route. I personally would prefer flatbed, as there are fewer things that can go wrong.

Wait a minute! Are you buying the car that Want71 asked about?
Anyway, I think you answered you own question. Have it flat bedded. You'll want to make sure they use the tow hook under the access panel in the front bumper to pull it onto the truck. Most tow truck drivers will look under the car, mutter to themselves about not having anything to hook onto, and then hook to the tie rods. Then they hit the hydraulic controls, and the tie rods bend within a second. There's also a tow hook in the back of the car because, once again MB didn't make anything in the suspension that's good to hook onto.

These threads need to be linked, so the whole world will know what you've done: 300SDL.

Buying the SDL out from under Want '71 280SEL's dad after he asked you to go check it out for him. Or has the dad decided to pass on it and we are misunderstanding?
Sorry, but I have a bad taste in my mouth for this sort of thing right now. I've been watching and waiting for a particular domain name for 2 months, but buydomains.com just grabbed it out from under me and now wants $2888 to sell it to me.

Yes you do. I knew about it on Sunday and looked at it Monday morning before I ever read his post.(The salesmen can confirm this I was there at 9am.) No, I did not check it out for him. If you read my posts you will see I was trying to be neutral. Asking about the car more then replying to him. I apologize if they were at all misleading. I decided to buy this car before I ever read anything here. I'm sorry if I was missleading at all again.

Well...in Oregon if your car isnt registered you can get a Trip Permit for $10 and drive it for a however long the permit allows. If you have something like that in your area, why not get one of those and drive it? If you can't or don't wanna do that, definately have it flatbedded...I always have my cars flatbedded, because no inattentive drivers can hit your SDL on a flatbed truck, whereas a car on a tow truck is fair game!
