don t know
from experience but i would look at the clutch fork and slave cyl. if the pilot bearing fits the nose shaft on the tranny and the length is correct, i dont know what else could be a problem.

The clutch fork and slave cyl. work and fit well. The pilot bearing fits just fine.
If anyone else knows of any other potential conflicts, let me know. Cheers, Brian |
Good Score
I swapped in a 5 spd Getrag from a 82 240D into my 79 240D. I had to swap the adaptor plate also. There are two different throw out bearings that LOOK very similar, be sure to use the right one, had to pull the tranny back out a couple times before I figured this out. :( The back up light switch is different but I assume you got all that stuff, drive shaft, linkage and all. I love my 5 spds, checked the MPG the other day and am getting 36+ on the highway. :) |
ok so do the 240d stick and auto use the same flyweel?
cant sceem to find an answer except for the 300D |

Driving on the interstate the diveshaft detached from the trans and took them off. Very scary.

yikes!
glad i wasnt there.
a buddy had the u joint on his 67 mustang go ahead of me back in '70 or so. it only had about 30k on it. those mustangs also were noted for losing ball joints about the same mileage. another time i saw a car go over a railroad crossing and lose the muff. it stuck in the pavement and acted as a pole vault and lifted the rear wheels off the ground about 2'. another time on the same railroad crossing (it was a huge dip at the bottom of a steep hill) a car came down fast at night and got airborn and came down about 50' later against a huge gas metering thingie which it knocked off. i lived a block away. when i saw what happened i ran the other direction about four blocks and didnt come back till it all settled down. other folks ran up close so they could see better! yikes! good luck on the shift rods. maybe someone can provide some that are loose so you can make some. tom w |
It's about freakin' time!
Looks like a green light for this saturday to swap the engine from my TD into the 240D. :D
I just need a few parts: Pilot bearing Pressure plate bolts A new battery (The old one finaly died and won't take a charge) Driveshaft (Waiting on Tom J) Oil cooler lines (Old lower hose is CLAMPED on with a standard hose clamp! *Not by me* ) |
good luck
with your conversion.

Bah!
I'm tired of my cr@ppy luck. What more do I need to go wrong? Nobody has an engine lift for me to borrow/rent. All the MB dealerships closed on saturdays (Murray Motors) or don't have the parts I need. The shop truck's radiator blew a hole in the *middle* of the core. My TD's axle is now clicking. I need to pull the engine out of an old POS international for work. and to top it off, I need $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Always. Oh well, Someday. |
