That's pretty compelling evidence of the benefits of the factory part. If the factory part lasts 150K and the aftermarket part lasts 50K, the benefit is yours only if you keep the vehicle another 49K miles or less
I wonder if Rusty can get the factory hoses at less cost than the dealer. I'm going to ask him. |

Update:
Well I got the order today and only got 1 oil cooler hose! The packing slip said everything shipped so either there $351 each! Or they messed up and I only got one. The Fastlane page makes it sound like you get both for $351, and they only list one part #, the top and bottem lines are different so now I'm confused I didn't have any luck getting threw to Phil today, I'll call him tomarrow. If there $351 each I hope I can get them made up locally. I know of a hydraulic hose shop and I'm going to see if they can crimp new lines on the metal fittings. If not I'm going to have to bend over and order another for $351.

Hey guys, its probably more polite to only mention those parts vendors (FASTLANE) who support this forum. I think a generic mention of "dealer" is OK, but to specifically mention the non-supporting competition isn't too cool.
imho

If they are $351 each send it back and have it "hosed" locally. no pun intended.

I dissagree. the the "other venders" were mentioned in a "just incase" context. besides, if fastlane has extremly high prices and someone else doesnt, fastlane will know that there business is moving elsewhere. then they can hopfully adjust prices to stay competitive. besides fastlane most likely gets there parts from the same wherehouses that your local parts guy gets them. We dont want this to end up like wall mart, that is having ONE giant store tell you thier stuff is the cheapest when it is more expensive than all the other smaller srores, now do we?

There are two different listings in the EPC. Separate part numbers A 603 180 00 30 and A 603 180 01 30 for engines up to 961 000118. For engines 961 000119 and up there is a single part number that includes both lines A 603 180 04 30. My copy of the EPC is a few years old, but shows a dealer list price of $584 for the two line kit. It doesn't show any prices for the single lines for earlier engines.

Brake Suppy
Their are a number of Brake Supply business's around the country that could make you the hoses complete with fittings...it is a low pressure system and no metal tubing is really needed...the whole sytem can be plain hose or braided...I just sold a used tank and both used hoses for less than 50 dollars for a 1980 SD(116 chassis) in excellent condition...The hoses are not easily removed...I am going to raise my price next time...

Phil is awsome! He got in touch with the supplier and found out there are supposed to be 2 hoses in the kit. He shipped them overnight for me, total time from when I called him less than 40min. Tommarow I'll have my car running and with some new wheels to! I'm feeling better tonight.

"Now the fun part (replacing the mothers) I don't envy you Hatterasguy !"
Getting the old one's out was a little tough, because they wouldn't come off the oil cooler, so everything came out as one piece. The new ones seem to be going together fine. I already have the cooler and the upper hose in, I'm just waiting on the lower. I'd imagine there would be less room on the W124 but on the W126 there is plenty.

No leaking oil there, I'm lucky my engine really doesn't leak any oil. The trans on the other hand.. I got the oil cooler and both lines in today, everything went together fine, the hardest part was putting the back bolt in the upper hose. There is a heater hose right next to it and not much room to get the bolt in. One of the reasons I like this car is there's room to work on things, the W126 is a big car and the 603 is the smallest engine they put in them.

Their Mercedes hoses, there wrapped. They updated the ends that attach to the oil cooler, there aluminum now so they shouldn't rust or get corroded onto the oil cooler.

Yep I use anti-sieze on anything I might want to take apart again. I was thinking the same thing, so a didn't go crazy tightening them, I figured if they leaked I could always tighten them more. I've put 25 miles on them today and no leaks! Hopefully I'll never have to replace them again, there Mercedes OE hoses, they have the star stamped on the crimp. The old hoses were in good shape after 17 years, I'm thinking these should last 20.
