Got pulled over 2 blocks from the hospital from where I work. The cop said he clocked me at 149 in my c5 vet. I though I was doing 160 beating up on that crotch rocket on I95 going to work; I work from 7p to 7a. Luckily, the cop was a familiar face I noticed in the ER time to time. He let me off. However, just last week I got pulled over in Cecil county MD. for going 60 in a 40 in my 82 380 sel. The cop kept asking me if I had a record or have been drinking. I said no, of coarse. I have no points. He came back and said he was going to cite me for "speeding" and it would cost $65. I was assured no points too. I then told him I was on my way to work at the local hospital in Elkton. He changed his attitude and told me to go to the court and he would "take care of it" I said if this is a $65 sobiety ck, I will just pay it. It would cause me to lose 6x that ticket to just take off work. The mercedes does keep me from speeding too even though it feels easier at high speeds than the vet. les

91 in a 70. Nothing compared to you guys. Good thing I had slowed down. The interesting part is that the Highway Patrolman kept asking me why he shouldn't take me to jail. He was quite agitated and lectured me for 20 minutes. I told him I was a good citizen, hard worker, church goer, lover not fighter etc.. etc... (lies, lies, lies)> I got the ticket anyway.

Close friend of mine claimed he got caught for 160mph in a 50 on an R1. He went to jail, bike got impounded, etc. I figure a possible 10mph exageration on his part, but still, that's damn fast. I really don't understand why he didn't just keep going. Yeah, I know, I hate to do the "my friend did this" thing, but I figured it was worth mentioning.

My only speeding ticket was brought down to 60 in a 45, I was actually going 65. Around $100. I was keeping up with traffic, the motorcycle cop had to pass 3 other cars going the same speed to get me, including a car identical to mine. The worst part was the HUGE sewage truck that was in the lane next to me going the same speed. To me the truck that weighed several times as much as my car presented a greater threat, but I got the ticket.

Hehe, I got 'em back though. When I sent in my check to pay for it I wrote "Oink Oink" on the the memo line.

in Pennsylvania, where i used to live, the sole purpose of all cops is revenue. they clocked me doing 87 in a 55 in a dodge minivan. i was going for 100, but it wouldn't do it.

91 in a 55. In an '88 Subie Loyale SW. Before I realized that I70 in Indiana is revenue collector central.

My excuse that I was used to flooring it just to keep up with traffic in the mountains of Colorado didn't fly. He was going the other direction and did the whole spin around through the median and traffic be damned thing. I think he was pissed that he tore the lower half of his grill off doing it. Kept me in the patrol car for half an hour, while rush hour sped past at least as fast as I had been clocked. Bastards must have known it he was the only guy patrolling that stretch.


Speeding in MD is much easier. On I95 there is always some idiot with a point to prove who will be the happy rabbit. I usually just provoke them a little, and then let them run about 1/2 a mile ahead. Its worked well for several years now.

Dude just recently....39 in a 25. The cop got me on laser. I thought he was joking when he pulled me over..guess not since he actually gave me a ticket. I was pissed.

I was 17, in my Buick (in my sig). California-stop and doing 47 in a 25 on a Sunday night, about midnight in an area NEVER patrolled by police. I am talking about an area that I could walk stark naked for 4 hours all around at night and never be seen by LEOs.

I was a block from my house when he pulled me over. "You goin' home?" "Yes sir, most likely to be killed by mom when she finds out...You might want to stick around for the murder investigation" I said with a tiny smile, the best I could do. It was my first ticket.


I got off with a Careless Driving, which is a city ordinance and doesnt go on the record. But it was 1/3 my monthly income at the time, a steep $125 when that was seriously needed gas money. Its a good thing the HP's never found out about my 130-ish on I-40. I did about 190 miles in about 90 minutes.

I would only do that speed on a track now, because my wheels are too important to me to lose to the law. Too bad I cant find any of those tracks.

I can take this in a bit of a different direction. Yes, I've my share of tickets over the years. And I've deserved most of them, but one in particular I really didn't think was reasonable.

At the time, I was a technical engineer for a company that developed hardware and software for large financial and marketing firms. My job required very frequent travel. I had just finished up working on a site in Casper, WY and was driving back to Denver to catch my flight back home.

It was an easy early morning drive and I had plenty of time to make the flight. Somewhere near the WY/CO boarder, a WY trooper headed north drove through the median and whipped back to head south, my direction of travel. Lights and sirens...the whole shot. Well sure enough, once he caught up with me, he didn't pass...but rather pulled in behind. So I pull over and go through the motions. Took my license and rental agreement and came back a short time later. Just as he was handing me everything back, he asked where I was headed. I told him Denver to catch a flight home. He asked where's home (strange, since he already had my DL) I said near Chicago, IL and he said Oh, you STILL live in Illinois...in that case, I'll need to go back for a moment.

Anyway, he took the paperwork back and returned with what looked like more papers than he originally had. he proceeded to tell me how I was clocked at 81mph in a 75mph and that type of driving could not be tolerated.

???WTF??? I was being written for 81 in a 75 !!! He pointed out the section of the ticket indicating the date and location of the court if I wished to protest the charge. I was my right to appear, blah blah.

What he didn't realize is that I flew enough to almost never be stuck in coach (always used the same airline) and racked up several hundred thousand frequent flier miles. It would have cost next to nothing to go back. But I didn't...just paid the ticket. The only moving violation on my record in 15 years.

Can't help to think if I was a local, the ticket would not have been issued...

I got that too. I couldn't believe I was pulled over, SINGLED OUT from a crowd of faster moving vehicles(joys of driving a German sport sedan). 37 in a 25 zone. Got off with a warning, I had an excuse "OH I just got my tires replaced and my speedometer needs to be recalibrated tomorrow. I honestly thought I was going the speed limit.

I was at 35(figured I was safe) according to the speedo, but these old electronic speedometers seem to lag behind on acceleration by 5%. My GPS verifies that with 70 - 80 mph times in 2 seconds and NOT around 4 like the speedometer read.

NEVER EVER speed by yourself, if its one thing I've learned. As Hatterasguy mentioned, find a rabbit and follow him as fast as you want to go. In my case I watch traffic up ahead for brakelights(signaling cops), and now that I have a new radar detector, I have an extra precaution.

YEAH triple digit plus speeds here I COME! Time to add some more videos to the collection to show some of you guys just HOW crazy these people really are. Everyday I95 speeds are similar to the ones found in World's Wildest Police Videos.

BTW, my excuse if I were caught at a high rate of speed. "Really officer, I had no idea! I was just following the car in front of me."

1982 300d 104 mph in a 65mph around 300 dollars. Long ago cop wrote on the ticket 120+++ mph in 1969 roadrunner going about 145mph night in jail and $287 fine that was a lot of money then. Same freeway both times 101 in Morgan hill CA. With in a mile of each other about 25 years apart. I will never learn but those are my only speeding tickets well one other 52 in a 50 thrown out in court

I put my theory into practice yesterday. On a big main road in New Haven, the speed limit was 40 but their wasn't anyone around. A yellow Civic is riding my tail and wants to pass as she passes me on the right I gun it and make it look like I want to race. I stopped at 50-55 and cruised right along she flew on for a few miles, she had to be going at least 10-15 faster than me. I was pulling on her till 50 Ahh let the rabbits run...

The worst was just after my fiance (now my wife) threatened to leave me. Before she could get on the train and leave forever, I raced over to where she was staying. I had just pulled onto the highway from the entrance ramp when a cop who just happend to be driving by on the hightway, pulled me over for doing 115 in a 55 -- I only had about 15 seconds to reach that speed, otherwise it would have been a lot worse. The bad news though, is that my ticket was given in the hanging judge's jurisdiction. That judge had a reputation for jailing anyone caught going over 100. At trial I told the story of saving my impending marriage, the cop "understood" and talked the judge into accepting a reduced plea to speeding at 75 in a 55. Fine was $200.

The best deal I ever got was after I was having fun on the highway, cruizing really fast and I manged to "allegedly" cut--off an undercover police captain. (It was totally safe, lots of room and he was driving so slow there was no chance of hitting him). Anyway, he was so pissed off when he finally caught me that he wrote me up for reckless driving, a misdemeanor with jail time, loss of license, outrageous insurance, etc. Good thing I'm a local atty, by agreeing to withdraw my arguable motion to dismiss (the captain had made many mistakes) the prosecutor settled for a guitly plea to doing 70 in a 55 and a $100 fine. Had I lost the motion the result would have been infinately worse.

No speeding tickets since in my C43. I only speed where & when I know it's safe and the cops are not likely to be present. I'm still paying relatively outrageous insurance rates in NY.

What kind of law do you practice? Do you like it? How did you get started? (out of law school, practice, etc?) I want to go into law and usually ask just about every attorney on this forum.
