4spd Shift Knob Ideas...

Hey all,

I just got my '72 350SL 4spd and found a helluva the mouse nest in the glove box. It also seems they made part of it by chewed the top off the shift knob (inc. the shift pattern).

Any suggestions on a replacement?

The length of the shifter boarders on the ridiculous (he said before having actually driven it, so I can't attest to it's action...perhaps I'll love it...). That being said, I'm not opposed to a modification to a newer (or older) model... I quite like the length and feel of the leather W124/Sweet 16v shifter (wrong pattern, I know, but think of it as an 'anti-theft' device ). I also love the vintage look of the Pagoda 4spd white knob (so cool!! ). Further I am certain that one of you would murder me if I installed a Dodge Pistol Grip shifter (lol ).

Just curious as to what anyone has seen/suggests/or, more importantly, has For Sale!

Congates on your new classic ! If you'd ever like to change to "lower rear end gears, for more mph) let me know. My 78 450sl has 3.07 gears/yours 3.46 and I've heard they'd bolt right up. Good luck Dave P.S. We all love our SL's....But there "OURS", make the changes you want and enjoy the "moonlite" filled sky's on a hot summer nite.

Oh she's "mine" alright...

Just curious what bolts up and what doesn't. I've got a brand new W124 leather auto knob that's been kicking around for years that I might throw in in the interim as the mouse-chewed shifter is less than appealing...

Anyone have any idea what other models had the same shift pattern? (4spd w/ reverse up & to the left)

all of them that i am aware of.

if it is a stick you should be able to use one from a 240d.

although they look mundane, the factory shift knobs are hard to beat ergonamically. (they feel good).
