I'll bet I'm the old man of the group. 67 as we speak. Bought an '82 380 for the wife new back then. Disliked the car myself because of lack of power and conveniences. Drove a 12 cylinder Jag coupe at the time, which I thought was superior in looks and performance to the SL, although it was no rocket either. Wife loved the car and we kept it for about 5 years. Along comes 2003 and a lot of years under the bridge, and a guy offers me a 1983 380 SL DIRT CHEAP with low miles(74,000) and beautiful condition. Timing chain (double), top, seals, and more had already been done. I figure I'll flip it and double my money. Here's the twist....I am now in love with the car! I wouldn't sell it for double the money, and now drive it everywhere. (top down of course) This is undoubtably my 2nd or 3rd childhood. The car does that to you! Anyway, I now appreciate the car for what it is, and it has become a hobby with me.

This forum is wonderful, as I have learned much from it, and hope I can contribute to it as I get further into my little "baby".

Leo Mauricio

Cool Age-old question

I turned 33 on Tuesday. I have only had my SL ('92 500) for a month, and won't experience the top-down ride until some time next year, but so far I am extremely happy.

I am 83 years old.

I plan to be driving the 560SL occasionally in the summer, but now it is parked for the winter. Of course it HAS had the new timing chain and a new exhaust. Since it is a fairly recent acquisition, I haven't really tested its mettle, yet.

Agreed, the car very appealing to women. That's one of the reasons I bought it.

Oh, btw. That's 83 Mercury years.

36, owned the 560 for 2 years, but it feels like we've had it for much longer. Hey, maybe maintaining your own vehicle actually slows down time!?

MB experience began in 1990.

best,

I'm Irish, 55 years young and living is St. Petersburg, Russia for the past 9 years. Its a '77 350 SLC imported in '98 from Germany (boy did I have problems with customs etc)
Its buttoned up now and safe for the winter, untill April. BTW, there are only 2 x 107 SLs here (numerous 129s etc) and ONLY 1 SLC- MINE
Great car - love to bits.
And so does everyone else.

I'm 29 and just bought my 96 SL600 2 months ago. I love it. It was the new 03 SL's that brought me to love the SL line. Since I could not afford the new ones, I had to at least get one from the last line. Still hoping to hit the lottery so I can order the SL65 .

I know a guy at work who had a SL320 and now has a SL500 (both R129) and he is like 24. But I hear that guy is not only earning alot of money, but comes from Money. He has also acquired a Lotus Espree, a Jaguar, and a couple of houses in great areas.

OK, I'll get shot for this, but...

the 280SL is really my wife's car and she is 69. (There, I said it.)

I actually bought the car for her about five years ago in order to allow me more freedom in my pursuit of other sporty vehicles. She loves it (as do I).

Cheers,
Wes

I also purchased my '93 300sl as a 50th birthday present to myself last October 03. Only 85,000 miles (the car, not me), my first MB and I love it.

I was 51 when I bought my SL. I was 24 when I purchased my first and only NEW Benz - the 240D. I've purchased carefully selected used models ever since. I have no idea how many total MB miles I have driven, but they are wonderful cars to drive.
