Dumb Question, but how do you physically ship wheels (sans tires)?

Do I put them in a box with popcorn?
Do I wrap them with brown paper?

I guess UPS would tell me...........

But thanks for putting up with such a dumb question...

Neil

If not in a box UPS charges $15.00 more each wheel. Better put in a box. Brown paper will not protect from damage.

I have shipped many wheels this:
Get two boxes that photo copy papers comes in and the use the bottoms of each box to make one big box. Incidently this combination will fit a wheels nice and snug. I then use FEDEX ground, which I have found is less expensive than UPS. I ship wills often from Baltimore Maryland to all locations in the US and have found this works wuite well.

How about Wheels and Tires

CJ,

Could you possibly help me ship a set of 4 wheels and tires from VA to CT?

What is the best way to pack and ship them?

Thanks,
JC

I just shipped a set of mounted 17 inch wheels and tires. I used box size 24x24x18 which I purchased at a Mail Box Etc. store for about $8.00. The box height was adjustable down to 8 inches. My final size was 24x24x10. Good Luck!

Kevin,

I assume you shipped the the wheels and tires mounted one per box. How much did it cost you and where did it go?

JC

Aija, yes I shipped a mounted balance wheel & tire COD but the receiver paid so I don't know the cost. I think it cost between $15 - 20 FEDEX. FEDEX is cheaper. Both UPS and FEDEX has shipping calculators where you put the the size weight and zip codes.

Hey Luke, Tire Rack does not ship wheel packages in boxes or padding? Just a piece of card board covering the wheel. How come you guys can get away with shipping that way - without boxes? Thanks.

a couple of pieces of cardboard and some padding is what we use for wheel and tire packages .... the tire sidewall does offer some protection also .... we have very little damage problems with our packaging system ... wheels without tires are double boxed ....
