ml320 center console window switch

my son pressed too hard on the front window switch and consequently the front portion of the switchplate assembly has broken loose inside the panel (the upper/back is still affixed firmly).
Wondering if I epoxyed a flat piece of metal...say a 1/2" washer (or two) across both sides of the joint if they'd hold (get 'er done)?
I've only briefly and blindly felt up beneath the assembly.
thoughts?
