I believe I press the stem twice very quickly after the "----" shows up to get the oil readout. I do it in the morning after the truck has been sitting all night. It works fine for that sequence every time. If you try the reading shortly after turning the engine off, or have the truck on an incline, or have the door open -- you will have problems obtaining the readout.
