Small LCD display screen?
I don't know where to even begin looking for one of these things.. or what they're even called. Maybe one of the forum geniuses here can lend a helping hand.
Essentially I would like a small, maybe 4.5" screen or less, display that I can have mounted in the car that would display the title, artists, album, etc. from my CD player. Some CD players have a display on them that can read out the artists name, title, etc. However, they don't show the "full" name. If one has a CD player that has that capability of showing a title.. can it be made some how that the info can be sent via a cable of some sort to an LCD screen? Sorry if this is confusing.. I am confused myself |

Try buying/modding a psone screen, they are about the size that you want, and easily dismantled. Also, they are fairly cheap, like 99$ retail, less for a used one on the net.
I am currently building a diy video projector out of a dismantled 15" moniter and an overhead projector. Try googling "diy projector" or "psone screen" and see what you can see. The only problem I see is you would have to get a playstation one to play your cd's on, unless you could find a way to hook it up otherwise. Hope this helps.. |

Is it possible to find something similar in a size of maybe 4" or less? 5" is a bit too big i think.

Ahh.. didn't think about that. I wish everything was just plug-and-play . Lets say the CD player thing won't work, is it possible to have something done to an ipod so a passenger in the back seat can read the title, artist, etc? This is also probably not plug-and-play. |

just buy a cheap used laptop...
That way, you can have video outputs and inputs, so you could hook up any kind of screen you wanted to, and any number of screens that you wanted to with the right adapter. I had a Toshiba Tecra 8000 it ran win98se, had 128megs of ram, something like a 500mghz processor, i think a 10gb harddrive really nothing special, but it could play songs all day, and it had video (composite and vga) outputs. I bought mine used for $110, and sold it 3 years later for $250... Ive seen them cheaper since. Just a thought, |

No.. I don't need to have a laptop installed in the car. I don't want something like "pimp-my-ride"... maybe not at the moment atleast Just something to display the titles from either CD player in the car or an ipod. |
