Angry I hate Subarus!!!

The 93 Impreza decided to give up the ghost on both CV joints without ANY warning yesterday, stranding me on a hill! No clicking, no notice whatsoever. Grr... 525 to replace both at a Subaru dealer... Only 119,000 miles too....The Mercedes had 327K on the ORIGINAL axles.

The 240D gave me TWO MONTHS notice of clicking before I had to replace the rear axles...and it cost me 300 at a Benz dealer!!!!

Another notch on the poll, another reason to fix up the 300D this summer.....

[counting the minutes before 123C chimes in here...]

Back when I was in the European vehicle repair biz, I used to check out WorldPac and Altrom wholesale pricelists for various replacement parts (struts, brake pads, ignition, filters, etc.), and Subaru parts were consistently more expensive than many similar VW, Audi, MB, BMW items. May not still be the case, but I did think it was odd...

Every front wheel drive-type vehicle I've owned(and that's been quite a few) have needed CV joints roughly every 100k miles, give or take. But I am surprised you had no warning.
I was able to get complete rebuilt axles for my Subie for $60 each exchange at Schucks. NAPA wasn't much more.

But $525 sounds a little steep, but you did have the work done at a dealer. The factory trained mechanic my brother takes his car to would only charge about $300 for a similar job.

However I am about ready to give up on my Subaru, it's just not meeting my current needs, and I can get something much larger that gets the same 15 mpg in the city
15 mpg in the city.....holy crap.....whats wrong with that thing?

My 2002 WRX wagon got precisely what the EPA sticker said....in the stop and go LA traffic I managed 20.5mpg regularly and on the freeway (SF to Seattle) 70-75mph yielded no better than 27mpg throughout the 25k miles I owned it before it's demise. Although with 227hp through the 5 speed I couldn't complain one bit! Oh i miss that car I guess I will never know how long it would take to replace the CV joints.
