Crap Crap Crap!

I accidentally (honest!!) deleted the Pretty Girls thread, man I'm sorry. I emailed Bill already to see if HE has some way to bring it back, but I don't think so. We'll start another one if he can't. I was trying to edit out some of this BS that sprang up all of a sudden today and hit "delete thread" instead of "delete posts".

Gilly,
The arbitrary back and forth of disallowing political and religious threads and then allowing them was one thing.
The ouster of long time members and generally ticking people off was another.
But now sir you have gone too far.
Of course you realize this means war!

Not related mind you, but I was wondering, how do you start impeachment proceedings on a moderator?

I'm no expert with these electronic boxes, that's for sure, but, as I understand it, "DELETE" simply eliminates the capability for you to see the document anymore. It does not physically remove it from the drive. The only way to guarantee that it is no longer on the drive is to fill the drive up fully with new material.

Supposedly, this is how the government nails people with things that they have supposedly "deleted".

Might it be possible for Bill to investigate this?

As I understand it, deleting it will simply leave the file there to be overwritten. It deletes the pointer but the file is still there till it gets overwritten. Also short of destroying the drive, if it is usable, you can read it. All depends on how bad you want the data. There was a show where they formatted the entire drive, wrote over it several times but still used somesort of electron microscope to view the surface of the disk and still can retrieve it.

I'm sure the FBI could restore the drive but they would need a more convincing reason

Worse things could have happened,,,,,, you could have deleted all "how to change the evaporator in a 124 " threads.

It's vb. You can do it. Moderators can be given the option to undelete. If you can see it you can undelete. If not, admins can.

Too bad there's no option to boot up Gilly in safe mode

This is the note I got from Bill:
Gilly-
I just did a bunch of research and there is really no practical way to bring
this puppy back.
The only way I could do it would be to wipe out the entire database and load
the most recent backup. Unfortunately the backup is several weeks old so we
would lose all threads since then.
Oh well, don't take it too hard. We can always start another thread.

In the future always soft delete!

SO, it doesn't look like it's going to happen. I AM sorry, another one is started, it wasn't intentional, AKLIM and others know the "crap" that was started on the old one, had nothing to do with Pretty Girl images, just a flaming war started over date rape and the raising of young girls I guess sums it up best. SO from now on, just post the pictures and make a few comments if you wish, but keep to the subject matter.

Gilly

I don't think anyone's taking this real hard Gilly. It's just such a great opportunity to give you a hard time.

Although Gilly uses precision weapons in the war against whining, innocent threads oblivious to the chaos around them get wiped out.

MedMech I ACCIDENTALLY pushed the wrong BUTTON, OK?
The thread at the time had some real trouble going on, I don't know if you saw it or not, but I was trying to use "the precision guided ordinance" and pushed the "ICBM" button instead. It was a mistake!
