I am a bit puzzled and thought that things like this were illegal. I attend Rutgers University in N.J. which is the No 1 diverse school in the nation.

So I am walking to one of my classes and this big bed sheet is hanging in the hall with spray paint on it. I guess this was referring to the student government ?

I don't really care about this but I thought it was somewhat interesting. Can anybody comment on the legality of this ? I am sure by now this is no longer hanging since it seemed little offensive.

Not to stir a pot or anything, but it looks like whoever wrote it was so pissed off they forgot how to spell "whites" and had to go back and squeeze in the "t".

If they want to get in the moment about it, it would be interesting to see how many people ran for the positions. If there were few minority candidates, and they were proportionatly elected then playing the race card loses some legitimacy.

I find the indiscriminate use of both capitals and lower case letters offensive, and I don't particularly like their choice of right justified text, but I'll defend their right to spraypaint visually offensive banners to the death.

Isnt the student govt elected?

I never hear Gloria Allred asking it be required that half the roofers, trench diggers, plumbers or framers be female. Guess those jobs are glorious enough.

You'd better hope it's not illegal. I don't want to live anywhere you are prohibited from posting/knowing the composition of your own elected body of governance.

I'm sick of the practice of considering only skin color or geographic heritage as diversity.

I am curious about why Kamil thought the sign might be illegal. I often hear of school administrators and other authority figures misunderstanding the First Amendment, so I wonder whether there were any policies at Rutgers that give students the impression that this type of speech is not permitted. A similar issue comes up in the context of prayer in school and I think there are some school administrators who do not know that students are, and always have been, permitted to pray in school.

I wonder how long that would be up there if it was argueing the discriminatory affirmative action that keeps better qualified whites out of schools in deference to quotas...instead if academic achievement. Bet it would have been torn down and the Jack boot thugs interrogating the students to find out who had the nerve to question the policy of discrimination against non-minorities in the higher education system.

Rant over....

But funny how some people tend to be more equal than others in the Universities.............
