..........I'm sorry, you’ll need a prescription for that snapple...

Citing a handful of small studies that found a link between green tea and the prevention of prostate and breast cancer, the FDA declared that there is in fact no such link. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8424430/

After careful review, the FDA found that there was no direct connection between the consumption of green tea and potential job opportunities for FDA officials. Further there was nothing to indicate that FDA staffers would be invited to even a three-star restaurant to discuss the results over dinner. And have you seen what green tea enthusiasts consider to be a good bottle of wine?

However, the FDA does remain open to the possibility that green tea may be beneficial if a credible corporate pharmaceutical manufacturer can find a way to patent it and sell it for $93 a cup ($12 a cup in Canada). "..........

It's funny, I didn't like it much at first, but it's growing on me, specially with a quah - sant, another newly aquired taste.

Here in the people's republic of Kahl -- ee -- FORnya, Asian style tea houses are becoming popular and I'm here to tell you, some of that tea is mighty fine. Has a real subtle magic when it's done right.

Paul C is right, don't steep it too long. What's really nice is: get some oo-long, King's tea is a nice variety of that, put some in a cup with a green tea bag; let it steep for a minute or two, strain it out into a new cup, and you can use it again for a second cup, also steeped briefly.

I'm convinced my health/energy -- whatever is better on this kind of tea than on coffee. Now I just have to do it.

God forgive me, I do like coffee....

I was told to drink it so I'd sleep better........but with this 'orrible taste in my mouth I think I'll go without.

Well, late in the evening, even green tea will keep me up. I'm telling you, oo-long is better. It is quite the legal controlled substance. Some tea suppliers have it in price ranges of $10 to $100 an ounce. King's tea -- that's what you want. Green tea is kinda harsh, all right. There are some peppermint/green tea combinations that are a lot better.

On the proverbs, I heard one in a similar vein the other day on the "What do you smoke" thread:

"Camels. Though nine out of ten men surveyed say they prefer women."

I say, dear fellow, you must give these things time. I hated coffee as a child and now it pulls me with a strong lure that takes all my strength to resist most of time -- and I often succumb. Its longterm effect on me is not good. A net loss of energy masked by a seductive illusion of a boost of energy. You borrow and the front side and pay back with interest on the back side. Makes your bones weak, too.

Oo - long is from the same plant as green tea, just picked at a different age and processed differently. It has many of the same attributes as green tea, though less of them, is much more agreeable, and is a big improvement over coffee. Give it a go, old chap. Make it King's Tea! (Oo-long with a dash of ginseng)

BTW . . . there is "green tea" and then there is "Green Tea." Anyone that has sat through a tea ceremony knows what's what.

I watched a tea ceremony for some sort of tea type in a nice Hong Kong Restaurant...it literally took three people 5 minutes to mix, pour and evenly distribute a special tea that they purchased.

I like oolong, darjeeling and Earl Grey, depending on mood or circumstance.

Green tea, I just can't enjoy the taste. Bongwater.

I drink green tea nearly everyday. The wife makes it from loose leaf green tea, and makes in a small clay Japanese pot. It does not taste like wet cardboard, more like dirt with a popcorn-like after taste. I actually like the taste, though.

There is a reason why it makes your breath smell good, but I don't remember exactly why.

I can't imagine someone recommending it as a sleep-aid as green tea contains caffeine.
