MAC OS9 connecting to Win2K Server Shared Directory help

Any MAC pros on the forum?

I have a client who has a MAC G4 running some version of OS9 and it needs to connect to some shared directories on a Windows 2000 server. I can't figure it out. I enabled the server's Apple Talk capabilties but the MAC can't find it on the network.

I checked Macwindows.com and wasn't able to find anything related to my problem as simple as it may seem.

Any help would be great! Thanks.

I recommend the Dave Thursby software for pre OS X operating systems.

Great! Thanks. I'll give it a try with the Chooser. I figured it would be something relatively easy. We'll see what happens.

Why would anybody with a G4 run OS 9?

Buy a Sedan de Ville and put a 4-banger in it.

It's a early G4 although that is not verified. It's a strange situation. The client is a professor and he is extremely resilient to change and or complicated systems. The computer, the G4 and the newly acquired dual G5 were bought just to run ONE specific genetics MAC only application...so sad.

BTW he's more of a full size truck guy as opposed to Caddies...they're not as off-roadable for research specimens

Lol, a G5 running OS 9.x is worse . . . Like running Windows 98 on a Pentium 4 . . . but with less crashes, I guess.

Nah, it's not that bad. G4 on OS9.x and a G5 on OSX which is much easier to configure. The cross platform networking with OSX was a snap.

I've got an old B&W G3 runs Panther without problems. It took some getting used to, but once you're there, it has lots of neat features. I'm thinking about buying a G5. Especially now that my internet connection is faster than my computer. No that just ain't right.

At one time was thinking of re-learning Unix on it but damn, why? OS-X is so smooth. And I don't have to remember all those anti-mnemonic damned codes. I know, with Unix you are God. It's true, I remember having su priveleges. It was cool when I understood it, 20 years ago!

Botnst, just hang on for a few and see how the Macs from Cupertino perform when the processors from just down the road in Santa Clara find their way "Inside."

Yeah, I've been watching that one. I figure G5's will get suddenly cheap on eBay and I'll pick one up when the herd panics for the new hardware. I'm at home and buy software rarely. I have my MS Office and I don't play games. I bought the G-3 on eBay for $400 and have used it going on 3 years. Same theory (different time interval) as buying a car.

Where's Suganami when I need him to 'splain it? I have never seen it explained so clearly and succinctly. I felt like saying, "Yeah man, like he said!"
