7 years and counting on macs. I love them and try to convert everyone I know. No viruses/spyware and it never stops working. My current iMac G4 is 1.5 years old and has never been shut down except for a power loss.

Just wait for the new mighty mouse (super cool and fun to use) to come out in bluetooth form. I use the bluetooth apple keyboard and mouse right now and the extra USB port in the back is great along with no wires gives my desk a great clean look.

My oldest computer is a iMac G3 Blueberry. It's still running as a music server in the house running OSX.

Powerbook G3 "Pismo" upgraded to a G4 <--best laptop ever made!
minimac <---comes wednesday for neighbor but I administer the computer

I would hate it if everyone switched to macs, I'd never make any money. I network administrate my school's computers, having both macs and wintels. Let me tell you the macs require NOTHING. The windows machines... thats easily a full time job keeping them running. Updates, viruses, security issues, multitudes of hardware problems, etc. You name it, I've had to fix it. I also have a roster of other people who regularly call me for maintenence on their windows machines. Either way I would be broke if everyone bought themselves a mac. And since I hate fixing my own stuff, I use macs at home.

Next project: OS X on a generic PC

Maybe it's because I'm a 'low-level' PC user (mainly MS Office) but in my experience Windows XP is a terrific product. Software has never ever let me down, and the free regular software updates are great aswell. I got myself a 4MB ADSL dataconnection the other day that required a new modem etc. Remembering how the installation of my former modem went, I expected the worst. Job was done in less than five minutes, and has worked flawlessly ever since. I know that Apple is a great product, but no complaints from me on Windows XP.

No coincidence that the Office products were all originally writte for Macintosh and then ported to Wnders.

Apples are sweet and nice, PC's are old and big. However, the transition to the new software is going to be a b!tch for large studios that use macs. I can see how it is going to get expensive---fast.

Anyway, the nice mac my parents have is soon going to be obsolete, as the new generation of mac emerges. But for now, I am going to stick with my old and trusty gaming rig. Hasn't let me down, knock on wood.

I'm ordering a new desktop this weekend, the simplicity and power of apple spanks every computer I've ever seen. One example is I've been attempting to use my SprintPCS vision for mobile internet via bluetooth. After several 3rd party add-ons for windoze and when it did work it wasn't for long. On the iBook it was a 1 minute set up and whamo bammo I'm up and running.

i envy you....

im waiting till i pay the benz off to think about getting another computer and its going to be an apple laptop i can tell you that

buuuut im learning linux so who knows where ill be .. i might just redo my laptop into a linux machine and get an apple laptop for serious stuff and the linux for play

Yes and no, security issues will arise if Mac becomes more popular but the architecture of the Mac OS does not make it as friendly for boogies to penetrate. I'm handling a small biz loan for a legally paid hacker that wears Linux and BEOS t-shirts so we've been BS'ing back and forth about puters in the interim about what ifs in business. I asked if the mass turned to Mac what his computer business would be like. He said that Mac is very difficult to penetrate and when you do finally get in there is not much you can do. the very nature of the OS is to self protect against flaws, and because Mac OS is so well written that the flaws are hard to find.

Windows stacks new crap on old crap and its a piece of cake to destroy.

Lets all salute!

Any OS that permits running java or activex is subject to intrusion, just as any computer that permits a user to download or run any program is subject to intrusion. Toss a couple of hundred thousand exploits at a Mac and it will wither faster than a Windows box. Mac has so far been able to hide in the shadows and avoid many of the problems. It won’t last.
