All in all, Mac is a better machine (I was a die hard Mac person for 10 years and have 8 Mac Plus and SE in my attic... if anyone wants to buy them, let me know! (for real!!). But when you figure software, etc. PC is just more practical.

Now. Fast forward a few years when major applications are web-based... NOW Mac will start to REALLY shine.

I would love a Mac Mini for the kitchen, I'll admit that!

…It’s about 10%. The key here is weather Mac Inc. is up to the challenge of folks turning to them. Isn’t one of the key problems confronting PCs is the overall reactive nature of the market place?

I don’t love windows. Never have and never will. My comment wasn’t a defense. As long as Mac stays a small time player they offer a good way to dodge the major issues for the reasons you outline. But it is obvious that their goal is to compete. That is the major reason for the move to the Intel platform. Once they come out of the shadows they will have many battles of their own. At that point it comes down to a ford vs chevy kind of argument.

FWIW I spend ~ 5% of my time “fixing” hardware and software failures. Most folks are bitter because they lack the training to do the work themselves. Not unlike any kind of maintainance....
