What about the banks? Should the government provide generator for all the banks in the area? You have a fueled $hitbox that can get food from a grocery store with a generator............but no money to buy any of it...........have to have generators for all the banks..........right?

The bottom line is the fact that commercial establishments are responsible for their own well being. If these establishments want to provide goods and services without being dependent on the power company, then they have the capability to do this.

If you were to check around, I'd bet that you would find quite a few establishments, and possibly some gas stations, that do have a generator setup. With the case of a gas station, the size of the generator would not need to be all that great to run the fuel pump.

I agree, businesses are responsible for their own generators......My company has their own....if the stations cared about business they would get their own.

If I'm not mistaken they can right off write off equipment on their federal income tax return, what are you suggesting Austin that they write them off on the state income return as well? W allowed $100,000 in deductions for small business's to buy equipment and everyone had a problem with that..

You are up too early.
Why would you embrace an artificial bias, rather than attempt to free yourself from such an encumbrance? If you add a dash of bias to truth, it is no longer truth.

Have I?

I think adding a dash of bias that distorts the truth would make it no longer pure truth, but propaganda (when disseminated).

Anything that strays from the truth is subjective, and therefore artificial.

I can accept that. Does bias automatically distort the truth?

Perhaps not, but rather like the second law of thermodynamics, it's a very strong tendency.

We agree. I went back and re-read his post and then mine. I think his agenda becomes evident in that he posts a verifiable event and in the same breath give it the perspective of his agenda, as if it were part of the orginal story.

XOM only had around $9billion in sales last 1/4. Do you really think they want to mess up their profits by purchasing generators for their stations? That $ would be coming out of shareholders (my) pockets. I could see em putting a $1/gallon surcharge on the fuel that is pumped with the generator.

After the storm, the only stations pumping gas had there own generators, and cashing in. If that is't the essence of capitalism I don't know what is.

There is no focking way the state or federal govt should foot the bill for any gas station owner to be able to pump his gas.

I bought my generator and while I can get a tax credit and a grant from FEMA for doing so, I bought it first and foremost because it filled a need in my life.

Big gas companies should foot the bill for their refineries and gas stations should do the same. After all they want to sell the product.

Here's another idea. Why not take collectins from desparate car owners wanting gas. I'm sure the till will fill up quick.

I bought my own generator last year after one of the storms and FEMA reimbursed me for it. I would have bought it no matter what but it certainly was nice to have them make the offer for a refund. As for business, I do find it hard to agree that the Govt should foot the bill. A business is in business to make money. They have to invest to make money. Invest in a generator and be prepared if you want to stay in business.
