Story teller...no kidding! When they did "Bad" live at Live Aid and Bono went off and turned a 3 minute song into an amazing 8+ minute affair it was just stunning. I don't know how the Edge kept up. Been my favorite song ever since.
Yal, I think it was quite appropriate that they let a young girl band plucked out of the audience play "Out of Control"...my favorite from the "Boy" album. I was worried that they would butcher the song on stage but they had it down I must say.

You were at Live Aid? I was only...umm 7 at the time. Just dug up some pictures...The Edge still had a lot of hair then! I love "Bad" too! It is one of my favorites because it builds momentum as it progresses. Wow, i bet an 8 minute version was phenomenal! ...I'll have to find a copy of it when I get home tonight.

I wasn't at Live Aid, I wish! I was schooling in North Wales at the time and we watched it on TV there. I believe they were suppose to go from Bad to MLK or Unforgettable Fire but Bono got carried away and jumped down into the crowd, by the time he got back on stage there wasn't enough time left to sing the next song so he adlibbed(sp?) for the next 2 minutes or so stealing lines from Lou Reed I believe, with the band playing on with Bad. It went something like this...

"Molly came from Miami FLA, hitch hiked all the way across the USA, she could see the satellite coming down, pretty soon she was in London town, Wembley stadium, and all the people went tut tut tut tutu tu..."

The crowd went mad!

Itunes has the complete U2 online with several versions of "Bad" but the Live Aid version is very elusive, I don't know if they have it. Live Aid was supposed to be their big promotion for the unforgettable fire album and the band was very upset with Bono. Rumor was they almost broke up back stage that day until they got feedback and realised how huge the performance was recieved Makes you wonder huh?

I wondered the same for the longest time. Paul Hewson is his birth name.

The amusing "Stuck in A Moment" music video in the football arena has a football player character that bears his name if you watch closely.
